Sunshine and a south breeze at 10mph and voila: Perfect weather!! Saturday’s highs low to mid 70s and Sunday well into the mid 70s.

Ever since we rolled into November we’ve enjoyed some great Fall weather. It continues today and this weekend, getting even warmer for Saturday and Sunday. Today after a near-freeze (and Freeze Warnings) we warm quickly to the upper 60’s by afternoon. Sunny skies prevail again, clear skies tonight but with a southeast wind we’ll only drop down to around 40. Saturday will be sunny and in the low 70’s, we might even get into the mid-70’s on Sunday with just a few clouds.

Tropical Depression Ida is over Central America right now but forecast to get into the Gulf by Tuesday. It appears we’ll get a glancing blow from its moisture, rain chances start up here on Monday night. Tuesday will be our first big rain since the new month, ending one of the longer dry spells of 2009.
Just as we were ready to write off the 2009 Hurricane season as calmest one in two decades, just off shore Nicaragua Ida becomes a catagory one hurricane. It will dump huge rains on the Central America nation over the next two days as it re-enters the southern Gulf of Mexico and strengthens again.

The great Fall weather continues, lots of sunshine today and very dry air in place. Temperatures started in the 30’s this morning and end up in the low 60’s by afternoon.

Tonight lows will get close to freezing, another Freeze Watch is out currently for tomorrow morning. The typical growing season in Davidson county runs about 204 days. After an early start this Spring and still lows above freezing this Fall the growing season has now lasted 229 days.

Tropical Storm Ida is bringing tremendous rains in Nicaragua today. As it heads north Ida could strengthen again and head into the Gulf of Mexico. If the frontal passages time out right we could be tapping into some of this moisture by Tuesday, increasing the rain potential.

Mostly sunny skies today team with a south/southwest wind to warm us out of near freezing temperatures into the mid 60’s. Very nice Fall day today, in fact very nice Fall weather for the rest of the work week and weekend. Highs tomorrow in the upper 50’s, we’ll be in the mid 60’s by Friday and around 70 both days on the weekend. Dry weather continues until late Monday/Tuesday.

We start the morning with temperatures briefly warming up before the sun arrives. This was because a cold front pushing in this morning mixed up the lower layers enough to put us in the upper 40’s. A few morning clouds but a mostly sunny afternoon ahead. The north wind picks up just as the afternoon sun tries to warm us. Though we start around 50 we’ll only warm to the upper 50’s. Tonight the winds start to slacken and temperatures fall close to freezing. A Freeze Watch in effect for middle Tennessee as we should all consider getting those house plants indoors for the season.

The dry weather continues through the work week and weekend. Certainly a change of pace here in the new month.
A frosty start this morning with lows hovering in the mid-30’s. A big jump in temperatures today with dry air and lots of sunshine. Highs should top out in mid to upper-60’s with some clouds arriving by mid-day. Those clouds will help tonight keep us out of the 30’s- the forecast low for BNA is 45 degrees. But a cold front bringing these clouds will also bring in another shot of cold air- highs tomorrow barely 60 degrees and partly cloudy. By Wednesday morning we’ll again be around freezing for a low.

Typically the growing season ends the last week of October. A hard freeze (one that kills most plants by freezing the water inside their cells) is described as a low of 32 or below for four hours or a low that hits 28 or lower. But in Nashville the growing season has extended 226 days and counting (typical: 204 days) after an early start this Spring. We’ll get close to a freeze again Wednesday morning and then again on Friday morning.
As wet as the last two months have been (+7.49 in September, +3.62 in October over normal) we start November very dry. For the first time in awhile no rain in the forecast for the next six days. A chance for some catch-up on these outdoor projects.
Temperatures this morning are more than 20 degrees warmer than yesterday morning. Highs today in the upper 70’s and very windy, gusts up to 30mph already recorded here in the early hours.

Predictor has consistently put the storms in Nashville between 6p-7p. A cold front arrives at the Tennessee River on our western boundry by 3-4pm. This front brings the risk of severe weather in the form of damaging winds and a sharp drop in temperatures. It should be in the Nashville area just after darkness sets in; temperatures in the early evening will drop from 70’s to 50’s. Heavy rain tonight, as much as 1″ to 2″ tonight.
THE WEEKEND
The rain lets up but continues overnight and through the first half of the day Saturday. Still thinking that the rain is gone by Saturday night for Halloween. That said, two of the four computer models show a second low moving over middle Tennessee bringing some light rain Saturday night. Sunday it’ll be dry but a high only in the upper 50’s. The Titan’s game is at 3pm- we fall back the clocks Saturday night so it’ll be dark before the end of the game. Predictor (and the NWS) calls for a dry trick or treat:

Skies did finally clear, during the overnight that allowed for a thick fog to form. We start our Friday with Dense Fog Advisory:

The fog will be replaced quickly with cloudy skies and few passing showers. The rain chances continue through the afternoon and evening. Highs today around 70 as the wind picks up from the southeast. This is a major storm out to our west; heavy snow in the Rockies (up to 4 ft in some areas), severe weather in the Plains (tornado watches this morning) and the anticpation of flooding just to our west (Flash flood watches in Tn/Ar/Mo).

We’ll have the wind pick up tonight as lows only drop to around 60. Highs tomorrow in the upper 70’s and very windy. A few passing storms could develop in the day but more likely Friday night as the front arrives. This front could produce severe weather and will certainly have a sharp drop in temperatures (from around 70 on a Friday night to the lower 50’s during the overnight). The risk of severe weather is a worry of the Storm Prediction Center, mostly in our western and southwest counties.

Cool and wet weather Saturday on the other side of this cold front. It appears a good soaking rain is in store for us through most of the day on Halloween. Right now it appears that this rain leaves by Saturday night for the trick or treaters. Here is how Predictor shows Saturday morning: a soaking, cold rain (temperatures should be in the low 50’s with a brisk west wind):
