Please remember to tip your forecaster!

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Temperatures are cold this morning (in the 30s around daybreak) but the forecast over the next two days will be hard to beat.

Ample sun will boost readings to the low 60s by midday and near 70 degrees this afternoon, the warmest it’s been in about ten days.

Saturday will be partly cloudy with highs back around 70 degrees and a south breeze.

Our weekend rain-maker has slowed down a touch; now I’m calling for widespread showers on Sunday morning, and they may hang around until the early afternoon east of I-65. It’s possible we could hear some rumbles of thunder, although temperatures in the 50s should prevent the possibility of severe thunderstorms.

The cool weather will linger into Monday, with highs in the 40s, clouds and a few lingering showers.

Warming up today and Friday, weekend storms on the way

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Clouds are starting to break up this morning, and that means we’ll finally see some sunshine today!

In the southeast part of the mid-state, there is some patchy fog this morning, and the clouds will hang tough until early afternoon.

Sunshine means warmer temperatures - look for highs in the lower and middle 60s for the first time since last week.

Tonight will be clear and chilly, down in the upper 30s, but Friday looks even better: sunshine and highs in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.

Saturday will bring a cold front and a line of thunderstorms during the evening hours. The rain may hold off until just after dark, so the morning and early afternoon should be nice and mild.

Sunday will bring a cool down, lingering sprinkles and temperatures around 50 degrees.

By the way: the vernal equinox (a.k.a. spring) officially occurs at 12:32 p.m. on Saturday. Enjoy!

Cool and cloudy, a few showers this St. Patrick’s Day

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

*Due to a WordPress glitch we were unable to update the blog until now - sorry for the delay!*

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Look for another mostly cloudy day with highs in the middle 50s and a light north breeze. Scattered rain showers are possible through the day, from late morning through evening.

Clouds will clear during the day on Thursday, allowing temperatures to climb to the lower 60s for the first time since last week!

Friday looks great - sunshine and highs in the middle 60s.

Saturday will bring a cold front and a line of thunderstorms. The rain probably won’t get here until after dark, so we should actually have a pretty nice afternoon (in the upper 60s).

Sunday will bring a cool down, lingering sprinkles and temperatures falling through the 40s.

Another cool day, but a slow, steady warm-up is in the works

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Another mostly cloudy and cool day is expected, with afternoon temperatures in the low and mid 50s and a north breeze at 10 mph.

I can’t rule out an isolated sprinkle this evening or tonight, and on St. Patrick’s Day there’s a 20% chance of a passing shower. If you’re out and about tomorrow, count on highs in the mid to upper 50s and a mostly cloudy sky.

We’ll see more sunshine by Thursday afternoon, which should boost readings to 60 degrees.

Ample sunshine on Friday will bring mid 60s, which will be our first above-average day in about a week!

Saturday will bring a cold front and a line of thunderstorms. The rain may not push in until late evening or Saturday night, so I wouldn’t cancel any daytime plans just yet.

Clouds and occasional drizzle continue today

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Someone needs to tap our weather pattern on the shoulder and give it a kick in the pants - the clouds, occasional drizzle and cool temperatures from the weekend should continue today and tomorrow.

Drizzle and patchy fog will be the rule this morning. Highs this afternoon will reach the lower 50s, but a northwest breeze at 10 to 15 mph will accentuate the chill. There should be a few breaks in the clouds after lunchtime.

I’ll call Tuesday and Wednesday mostly cloudy. I can’t rule out some isolated light showers those days.

Sunshine finally takes over Thursday and Friday, which boosts temperatures past 60 degrees.

A cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms to the area on Saturday afternoon/evening, but we’ll watch the timing of that system and keep you posted as we head through the week.

Cloudy and Cool

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Unbelieveable!  We lose an hour of sleep and hope that means a nice, long afternoon of sunshine!  No such luck!!

Cloudy and cool weather will welcome the work week as well.  We may even have a few more sprinkles around here and there on Monday.  A light north breeze will hold temps to between 48 and 52 degrees for highs on Monday.

Spring Weather On Spring Break!

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

It’s not just the kids who are on spring break.  The spring like temperatures we experienced recently have decided to go on break, as well.  As that massive upper low continues to sit and spin over Tennessee, you can carbon copy Saturday’s weather to Sunday.   We’ll continue to see off and on rain showers today with highs only in the upper 40s.  There is light at the end of the tunnel, though as 60 degree weather should return at the end of the work week.

Rain today, cloudy and cool

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

Clouds and occasional light rain are the name of the weather game this weekend.

Temperatures will be in the 40s most of the day, briefly touching 50 this afternoon. A west breeze at 10 to 15 mph won’t make it feel any warmer!

The rain won’t be heavy or last all day, but everywhere in the mid-state runs the risk of passing wet weather this morning, afternoon and evening.

A more organized push of moisture will up the rain chance on Sunday morning. It looks like the rain will thin out by tomorrow afternoon, though highs will once again struggle to get past 50 degrees.

Remember to set those clocks forward 1 hour tonight as we “spring forward” into daylight saving time!

Isolated showers this evening, cooler weather moving in for the weekend

Friday, March 12th, 2010

After some afternoon sunshine, a few isolated showers are swinging in from the west along the leading edge of some cooler air. Nothing strong, and the isolated showers should fizzle by 9:00 p.m.

Look for a mainly cloudy sky this weekend, with a cool breeze from the west. On Saturday, I expect occasional light rain, but it won’t be an all-day washout. Temperatures will be in the 40s most of the day, with an afternoon high around 50 degrees.

Sunday will feature much of the same, although the rain chance should exit the area by afternoon, when we hope the clouds start to thin out. Sunday temperatures will remain cool, with a high around 50 degrees.
