Thursday Night Snow Flurries

late-afternoon-sky2

The late afternoon clouds that made for such a beautiful sunset brought a few flurries to the northern half of middle Tennessee Thursday night.  We don’t expect to see any accumulation… and the truth is you have to look really close to see some of those tiny snow specs… but it is downright frigid in a cold northerly breeze.

Friday will bring the sunshine out again, but it won’t warm up much.  High temps in the upper 30s,and teens expected Friday night.

Don’t worry Titans fans!  We’ll see temps back in the 50s by Sunday’s big game!!

Pink… one of the many shades of autumn!

Clouds began to roll in Monday afternoon, and we will see quite a bit of the gray skies for the next few days.  Occasional showers will accompany the clouds Tuesday, Wednesday, and, perhaps, even Thursday morning.

A Fallish Weekend Ahead

A Cooler Saturday

A Cooler Saturday

A cool breeze with temps falling into the low 40s/upper 30s tonight.
Saturday will bring a mix of sun for a time then more clouds… but no rain.  High temps in the 50s to near 60 in southern counties where you should see a little more sunshine.
Sunday will give us a little more sunshine but will be a little cooler… in the mid 50s.

Fall Color in Full Swing

The warm days and cool nights explode middle Tennessee in brilliant fall color.  We have two more days of warmth, so get out and explore!
A fall front swings through Thursday night/Friday morning with some brief rain but more long lasting cool temperatures.

Perfect Voting Weather

election-forecast

We’ll worry about real November weather later this week.

Another Cold Night

Most areas down into the upper 20s tonight.  The official airport reading may be a degree or two above freezing but you get the picture… Bundle Up early Thursday morning.

However, we will warm up nicely Thursday afternoon.  With sunshine and a light southeast wind, temps should reach the upper 60s.

Freeze Warning for Real Tonight

Low temps should bottom out in the 20s overnight.  Lingering clouds kept most areas above freezing early Tuesday morning, but with clear skies and light winds we should have no problem dropping well below freezing by the wee hours Wednesday morning.

We usually get our first freeze of the fall season around the end of October, so the frigid weather is right on target.

Plenty of sunshine again Wednesday but it will take time to warm up to the upper 50s.

Delightful Weather For August; Some High Clouds Tonight & Sunday

You can’t get much better weather than this in August:  Low humidity (dew point near 50!) and highs only in the mid 80s.  Tonight we will drop to low 60s in the city with some 50s once again sprinkled in the outlying areas, especially north and east of Nashville.  Highs on Sunday will be in the mid 80s again.

The  only difference:  The Stormtracker graphic above shows a system to our west that will spread some high clouds across most of Middle Tennessee.  Most of the rain with that system will stay in west Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi but there may be a few fringe showers or t’storms in west and southwest Middle Tennessee on Sunday.

Good Rain Chances

We had some impressive rain totals yesterday in isolated areas:

Today the rain chances are a little higher and more widespread.  We had a few warnings yesterday because of high wind with reports of power lines down in Davidson Counry. The same might happen again today; a few warnings but the bigger risk will come with the heavy rain. The rain will continue through the early evening before starting to shift south. By overnight we’ll start to see the skies clear. Then the heat is back: we’ll get into the upper 90’s by Sunday and Monday. Say hello to August! Predictor at 2pm today below:

Heat Index 105-110 On Monday

The actual thermometer should reach about 98 degrees on Monday, with a dew point near 70.  That would put the heat index between 105 & 110.  Check out this Heat Index Chart.

This type of heat can be dangerous if you work outside.  Make sure you drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade.  If you can go into the air conditioning for a while before resuming work, it will help.  Wear light colored clothing and a hat.

There is some relief in sight, though.  First, an increase in scattered storms on Tuesday will bring temps down several degrees, but still in the 90s.  By Wednesday, a front will push through leaving temps in the mid 80s after a half a day of clouds and showers.  On Wednesday night, temps will drop to the mid 60s, and Thursday’s highs will only be in the mid to upper 80s.
