Daylight Saving Time Starts Overnight Tonight

Don’t forget to set your clocks forward one hour tonight before you go to bed. Otherwise, you will be late for church in the morning. Remember, it’s “Spring ahead, fall back”.

You will feel tired tomorrow morning as you lose that hour of sleep. But you can enjoy one more hour of sunshine tomorrow afternoon. Sunset on Sunday will be at 6:49 PM CDT.

Smoke From Large Maury County Brushfire Shows Up On Stormtracker

brusfire-smoke-wide-8-20.jpg

brushfire-smoke-close-8-20.jpg

Check out the smoke coming from this brushfire near Mt. Pleasant in Maury County (west of Columbia). It is in the Enterprise community. News 2 is sending a reporter, so we should have more details on our evening broadcasts. The smoke is being detected as far north as Franklin and Cool Springs.

By the way, the reason it does not show up on the Stormtracker image at the top of the page is that that version filters out non precipitation.

Tanker Truck Fire Shows Up On News 2 City Cam

smoke-6-13.jpg

The News 2 City Cam from earlier today showing smoke seen from downtown Nashville.

A tanker truck carrying fuel exploded when it collided with a dump truck in Hendersonville at Vietnam Veterans and Callender Lane earlier today. There has been one fatality reported so far. There is worry about damage to the Callender Lane overpass due to the heat from the fire. The smoke could be seen billowing into the air for miles around.

As of 2pm, Vietnam Veterans is still shut down in both directions. They are working on getting one side open.

Take This Forecast to the Bank

I predict that Jeff Ray will be a very sore meteorologist Monday morning. 150 miles in two days on a bike will do that to a guy. Congratulations to all involved in the 8th Annual Tour de Cure!

Outside for Memorial Day

Justin Bruce touched on this a little during the show this morning; middle Tennessee over a slew of activities to enjoy for the long holiday. Both Nashville Shores and Wave Country open for the summer starting tomorrow, the Watkins and Kripatrick Spraygrounds open up today (but not Metro pools- not till June 4th or 5th). Tomorrow Cheekwood opens its “Once Upon a Garden” display that will be there all summer, its a garden tour of all the classic storybook tales we grew up reading. This is the last weekend to enjoy the Tennessee Renaissance Festival, its’ last day is Monday. The Lebanon Car show is also this weekend; it draws a huge crowd in the seat of Wilson County.

And I would be amiss not to mention the National Cemetery in Nashville where almost 35,000 American soilders are buried. Once a year they plant flags at every grave; they’ll be doing that on Sunday for full display on Monday. It is located on 1402 Gallatin Pike; take Briley Parkway to the Gallatin Pike exit and head toward Madison. The cemetery is next to Briley on the left (there is a private one on the right).

Feel free to post comments about other events this weekend around middle Tennessee. If you are an organizer of an area festival or event please e-mail us so we can mention it on-air heading into the weekend of the event.

Wishful Thinking!

Mark and Rhoda Fagan sent us this great picture

You can see the red hummingbird feeder and the hummingbird. But check out the silhouette in black. It’s Dewey the cat. He’s got a hummingbird dinner on his mind, but no such luck. By the way, if this looks familiar, Dewey made this pose before for our blog last year.

Springtime Brings Babies!

Bob and Mary Schwartz sent us this picture of some curious baby racoons in a tree in northwest Giles County. Bob and Mary have plenty of wildlife on their property as seen in a PREVIOUS ENTRY.

Neil Orne Cause Trouble?

Head over to Papa Orne’s blog for a behind-the-scenes look at Lisa doing the “real work” at News 2. I think Davis, Jeff and I have some catching up to do.
