Cloudy & Chilly Day; Windy & Colder Wednesday With Flurries; Another Snow Storm Passing To Our South

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

highs-today-2-23

With the clouds hanging in today temperatures may not get out of the upper 30s for many of us.  I’ve updated Nashville’s high to be only 39.  There may be a partial clearing of the skies for awhile tonight, only to see more clouds along with snow flurries and frigid wind chill temps for Wednesday (Temps in the mid 30s, wind chills low to mid 20s).

sat-2-23

The arctic front dropping southeastward (seen above) will supply the raw Wednesday weather mentioned above.  Meanwhile, another snow storm may be passing to our south dumping snow tonight through tomorrow morning in Jackson, MS, Birmingham, and Montgomery, AL.  As a matter of fact, we may see another one of those on Friday through Friday night, only to be followed by a third one next Monday and Tuesday that may bring snow even farther south towards the Gulf Coast and then towards Atlanta.  As usual, we will have to watch our southern counties with these systems in case they slip a little farther northward.

Back To Reality This Week

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

sat-2-22

After a wonderfully mild weekend, temperatures are returning to what you would expect for February.  As you can see above there are two cold fronts on the map, one which is cooling us down today, and a stronger one heading our way for Wednesday and Thursday which may yield only 30s for daytime highs.   The off and on patchy drizzle will continue today and this evening with the possibility of a few flurries in our eastern counties along and near the Cumberland Plateau Tuesday morning.  As the next front arrives on Wednesday there is the chance that all of Middle Tennessee may see a few flurries as temperatures tumble.

9:50pm Sunday Night: Rain Pushing Through Cooler Temperatures Ahead

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

If you are following Stormtracker above, you can see the rain that pushed in just about right on time this evening.  The brunt of the rain will push east overnight, but there will still be some spotty showers and patchy drizzle when you head to work or school Monday morning.  Temperatures on Monday morning will be in the low 50s, but will fall into the 40s during the day.  Click on the 7 Day Forecast and watch the temps return to more normal levels for this time of the year.  I want the weekend back!

After A Mild Weekend, Rain & Some Thunder Tonight; Colder This Week

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

outlook-2-211

Temps touched the mid 60s Sunday afternoon, but now it ’s time for some rain.  As of 5:20pm the leading edge of the rain was crossing The Tennessee River.  Expect rain to reach Nashville in the 7-8pm time period, followed by some rumbles of thunder around 10pm to midnight.  As the thundershowers push eastward after midnight, there will still be some scattered showers overnight and on Monday.  Temps will drop to around 50 by daybreak, and only rise to about 52 on Monday morning before falling into the 40s during the day.

If you click on the 7 Day Forecast to the right, you can see that temperatures return to more “February-like” readings this week with even a few flurries possible Tuesday morning on the Plateau, and in the rest of Middle Tennessee on Wednesday.

More 60s Sunday; Rain Sunday Night; Then Cooler

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

outlook-2-21

predictor-b-2-21

The official high on Saturday ended up at 62 degrees and we are expecting more 60s on Sunday.   As we have mentioned, when it warms up this time of the year, rain is not usually too far behind.  We expect it to remain rain free during the day on Sunday, but by evening the showers should push in along with a few rumbles of thunder.  After that, we start to turn colder Monday as the day wears on, and get back to the reality of February this week.  See the 7 Day Forecast to the right.

60s Were Nice Today; More Tomorrow; Then Rain & Colder

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

so-far-2-20

predictor-2-20

The high temperatures so far today on the hourly reports has been 61 (we will get the official high in later this evening and it may have gone higher).  This is the first time we have experienced 60 degree weather since January 21st when it was 62.   We expect more 60s tomorrow with an anticipated high of 63, but the clouds will be increasing during the afternoon hours, to be followed by rain Sunday night with perhaps a rumble of thunder or two.  Behind the rain, temps will begin to cool down on Monday, and we will see temperatures get colder day by day through Thursday.  Back to reality!!!   Click on the 7 Day Forecast to the right.

Noon: Nashville Finally Above Freezing

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

city-cam-2-17

sat-2-17

At 12 noon, we have finally topped the freezing mark at 34 degrees.  We have been below freezing since 1am Monday when the temp dropped from 35 to 28 at 2am Monday.   It’s nice to see the sun here in Nashville, but there are some more clouds pushing into our northern and eastern counties that may also clip Nashville this afternoon.  Temps in our eastern counties in the clouds (and snow on the ground) will probably stay at or below freezing today.

Off & On Flurries Continue; Rural Roads Still Snow Covered

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Are you wondering why Metro Schools were still closed today?  The first picture below is from Joelton in Davidson County where Metro school buses have to run. Outside of town, many rural roads are still snow covered.  We wish we could post every picture we have received here, but you can see them all at  www.nashflix.com.   Click on “Recently Added”, and “see more”.

As you can see, Monterey really got slammed!

Thanks to all of our viewers who sent pictures.  I wish we could show them all here, but you can go to www.nashflix.com and see most of the pictures we have received.  Check out “recently added”.  Click on “see more”.

As for the weather, intermittent snow showers will continue this afternoon where you will really see the snow come down for awhile, and then it will stop, before starting up again.   Temps will remain in the 20s this afternoon.  Tonight’s lows will dip to near 20 here in the city, with teens northwest, north, and northeast of Nashville.

Here in Nashville, the main roads are looking good, but watch out on secondary roads, especially tonight when the sun goes down.  Any moisture will instantly turn to black ice.  Many rural roads are still snow and ice packed.

9pm: Snow Pushing Our Way For Overnight, Then Again On Monday

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

outlook-2-14

ton-and-monday-2-14

As of 9pm Sunday night, it was snowing in Jackson and Memphis and headed our way.  The rain should change to snow in Nashville around  11pm to midnight.  That round of snow should last into the early morning hours before tapering off.  Then as the day wears on “wrap around” snow showers push into Middle Tennessee from the northwest.  Add them together, and we should see around 1-2″ of snow in Nashville, with 2-3″ amounts in our eastern counties.  Roads will be slippery with temps dipping into the mid 20s overnight, and not rising above upper 20s on Monday.
