It’s appears Nashville will get about an hour of snow with flurries in the afternoon. Temperatures still are slightly above freezing in Nashville (34), just below in Clarksville (30). This snow will make for some slushy roads in Nashville, temperatures won’t get below freezing to later this afternoon. Tonight they’ll drop to the low 20’s so expect some black ice tomorrow morning (and wind chills in the single numbers).
It was a very, very difficult call this morning by Metro to call schools. It is likely that this burst of snow this morning won’t accumulate on the roads and nothing is freezing until tonight; the interstates in Davidson county will be fine.
The main concern this morning was actually the already existing coat of slush on the secondary roads. I had the chance to talk to those in charge of moving the school buses around Metro this early morning. I always look forward to my morning chat with Metro in the morning, this time not so much it being such a difficult call. I told them there was a chance they were closing schools just for wet streets - but the risk of a small bit of snow on top of the overnight slush would make we vote for closing. As Metro officials drove the roads in the early morning hours they came to the same conclusion. With even just a little snow coming in and dropping temperatures the call was made not to run the buses.
Metro ran out of snow days in the last event. Now they are (likely) tacking on days before they dismiss for summer.
There is a small chance for flurries on Friday night/early Saturday. A better chance for a light snow on Sunday. The next two weeks are going to very, very cold with several more chances to tack on even more snow days.
Meanwhile the East Coast there is a real winter to deal with. Philly it likely going to get more snow in a four day period then any time in their history, over 50″. Washington DC has 35″ of snow so far this season expecting 10″-18″ more tonight and tomorrow. We still have only logged a mere 6.3″ of snow so far this season at BNA, the most since 2003.
