Big Flakes… Be Careful

The late afternoon/evening snow showers producing very large snowflakes and as you can see above it is coating the ground in some locations.  The heaviest burst of snow were south of Nashville around sunset which is where we have seen as much as 1″+ of accumulation.  Eventually many of these areas will get sleet mixing in with the snow and that line will slowly lift northward.  Then we expect to eventually changeover to rain in those southern counties and that change to rain could make it as far north as Nashville overnight.

The northwestern counties are getting a lighter snowfall but are most likely to see it last as snow and NOT change to rain.
With temperatures at or just above freezing the roads are being covered with snow in those areas of the heavier snow, so, please, be careful.  It WILL be slippery.

The weather channel shows the rain coming in at 11pm tonight…..was 9 earlier, so they have pushed it out 2 hours…..still snowing hard here in Mt. Juliet.

    Ryan,
seeing sleet mix in again here in linden. My thermometer went from 34 to 32 degrees. Let me know if you see another change over

  3. tjwsc8 says:

Started out as sleet/snow mix in Lebanon, switched over to all snow about 30-45 min ago and still come down pretty hard.

  4. magic9s9 says:

Rain mixing with the snow in Mt. Juliet now.

  5. ycartrob says:

We’re BACK to big snowflaked here in south Nashville; less sleet, more snow.

  6. BlueEyed says:

Even though we dropped to 32; it’s mainly rain in Hermitage.

  7. tm37015 says:

Big flakes now in N. Cheatham - the snow kind ;). Sleet has stopped. Pushing 2″ it I had to guess.

  8. tjwsc8 says:

Now changed back to sleet/snow mix here in Lebanon.

  14. ipsychu says:

  15. foreverzero says:

sorry I heard wrong the snow total where I’m at is more around 1.5 to 2″ but it has all mostly changed to rain here

  16. tm37015 says:

Wow! Snowplow just went down my road. They are on top of things this time. Snow has pretty much quit.

  17. snowman says:

It looks like the “storm” for Friday heads for the Florida Keys and misses us by hundreds of miles. Could we get more snow in the Sunday/Monday timeframe?…

  18. mtcards says:

Dickson at around 2″ now, but changing to all rain. Roads are BAD!!!!

  19. Ice Storm is going on right now.. Power-lines and Trees are becoming iced up.. Around .25 of ice buildup right now.. So far it is just primarily accumulating on EXPOSED surfaces..

  20. Didn’t mean to use ICE STORM as wording, but there is a lot of ice build up now..

  21. CodyPC says:

after you said that ryan I went outside to check here and same thing. temp gauge says 31 and there is a layer of ice pretty much around everything

  22. Yeahh but what kinda surprised me was that it is not really accumulating in the vehicles.. This is kinda what I was thinking..

Temps kinda holding steady at 33-32 degrees and freezing rain..

  23. CodyPC says:

    yep

  24. So are you seeing pretty much the same thing Cody?

  25. CodyPC says:

yes very little thin layer of ice has coated the limbs outside of my house. water is still dripping off the limbs however…. i guess a very slow freeze.

  26. Yeahhh it is a slow freeze.. Because the temp keeps on bouncing up and down.. Now if it was a constant 32-31 we would be in big trouble.. Ya know..

  27. CodyPC says:

oh yea……. who knows what the ground temp will do in the future
