Today some high clouds and temperatures in the mid to upper 40’s. This will be the best weather of the work week with just a little south wind (5-10mph). Tonight becoming cloudy with slight rain chances, highs tomorrow in the mid-40’s under cloudy skies and a 20% rain chance as a cold front moves through.
WINTER STORM COMING FRIDAY
Thursday night we start seeing the first of the winter storm hitting here in force on Friday and Saturday. Overnight heading into Friday morning light rain start to change over to a mix. Icing is possible by Friday morning, especially across the northern counties and into Kentucky. A mix of of sleet and snow will be falling over middle Tennessee changing over to snow and ice later in the day. The worst of the storm (heaviest amounts) is now forecast to happen during the day on Friday. Across the northern third, along the I-40 corridor ice in the morning changes to a good snow by Friday afternoon, evening and Saturday morning.
The timing and placement of the ice and snow will likely be adjusted as we draw closer. Just to show you the uncertainty over middle Tennessee on where the heavier snow will accumulate the Weather Service Office (WSO) in Paducahis calling for 8″ of snow in Hopkinsville. Meanwhile the WSO in Huntsville is forecasting about a .10″ of snow in that city. The WSO in Old Hickory by the way is forecasting 4″ of snow for Nashville.
An ice storm is forecast for Oklahoma and Arkansas tomorrow, one that can knock out power lines and make roads impassable. It is possible that overnight Thursday or Friday morning we get an icing event here. Below is HPC showing a 10% chance of at least a .25″ of ice:

There is a 40% chance of at least 4″ of snow in middle Tennesse:
What is most expected to change is where the REAL heavy snow will fall. HPC puts a slight chance (10%) of 8″ of snow to the west of Nashville and on the eastern edge of our area and into East Tennessee:

OHX in Paducah thinks that heavy snow band will be over western Ky and extend down to the TN/Ky state line.
Updates later this morning.

A nice 4-6″ snow would be excellent up here in Cookeville. Will keep you all informed on measurements as they warrant.
Reading the NWS discussion… they say their latest info shows more precipitation for mid TN than previously thought
It is amazing how a slight shift in the path of this could bring us up to a foot of snow, or a shift the other way could bring us nothing but rain.

Lol here we go again with cookville weather ***. Shut up already and let news2 do it’s job.
Id much rather get snow then ice, as ice brings down powerlines, trees and other things that make life grand.

Latest model I looked at shows 6 - 8 inches in Nashville with that 8 - 10 inch mark starting to move closer to us.
Where di you see this model, Magic?
Yea tell us
Not sure how accurate this is though……but several folks have been looking at this.
http://wxcaster.com/gis-gfs-snow-overlays.php3?STATIONID=OHX
I’ve seen that model for a couple of days now and it’s been fairly consistent. I think I’ve read, though, that GFS always bumps up the snow totals.
Models can vary greatly. The GFS model has the entire state of TN covered in snow early by Saturday morning. By the way, the ETA model makes the possibility of snow much more precarious.
Wonder when we will be placed under a watch?
I have to tell you that I am getting the feeling that the cold air is not going to be here in time for the majority of precip. I am afraid nashville will get mostly cold rain and very little snow
Newschannel5 shows tennessee as getting almost no snow. They have the rain snow line in KY. Why is there’s so much different?
I saw that this morning and they are the only station that showed that, and I believe it was sleet and freezing rain.
Actually Michael, that was a noon projection. Go to the nooa site and it changes everything to snow in the afternoon.
Myforecast is showing 8 then another 8 which is 16 inches. Go check that out!!!!
40 min ago, nothing! Now 2in here and still falling good!
