Fog Likely Sunday Morning, Then A Nice Day; Set Those Clocks Back;

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

sunday-morning-10-31

Drive carefully if you are out Sunday morning as we expect fog to be likely across most of Middle Tennessee.  After the fog burns off we will see a nice day with plenty of sunshine.  By afternoon, temps should just inch up to near 60 for a high.  But another chilly night is in store.

titans-10-31

If you are headed to the Titans game, dress warm.  Although game time temps may be comfortable in the sunshine, the sun will be setting before halftime and temps will be dropping through the 50s, to near 49 by the end of the game.  By Monday morning lows should be in the mid to upper 30s.

Clear & Cool Halloween; Set Clocks Back 1 Hour Tonight

halloween-10-31

As anticipated, the skies cleared out in Nashville late this afternoon, and will be doing the same for our eastern counties as the evening progressess.  The rain has left all of Middle Tennessee, but it will be on the cool side (and front lawns will be soggy!).  Dress the Trick or Treaters warm as temps will be falling from the low 50s to the upper 40s during the evening hours.  By daybreak, expect upper 30s for lows with some patchy fog.

On Sunday, we’ll see abundant sunshine and a high near 60.

Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour as we lose Daylight Saving Time.  If not, you’ll be early to church!  We gain that hour of sleep back Sunday morning.

Rain To End For Trick Or Treaters; But Wet Front Lawns! Set Clocks Back Tonight

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

It has been a wet start here in Middle Tennessee, but as you can see on Stormtracker the rain is now pushing east and south of Nashville.  It will continue its progress today, finally clearing our eastern and southern counties late this afternoon.  We hope to see some sunshine later today, especially from Nashville westward.

Temps will stay in the 50s for highs today, so when the sun goes down, it will be cool for the Trick or Treaters, dropping into the low 50s and then upper 40s by 9pm.  Dress the kids warm.

By the way, when you go to bed tonight, set your clocks back one hour!

Update on Rain ETA

Friday, October 30th, 2009

The leading edge of the rain has finally begun to speed up.  It now looks like it could be in Nashville between 5-5:30pm.  That means rush hour could get wet, so drive carefully.

Although we don’t expect the weather to be as bad as it was in Arkansas and Louisiana, we still could see a few Severe T’Storm Warnings and Flash Flood Warnings tonight.  The rain could get heavy.  Don’t try to cross a flooded roadway.

The rain will taper off by lunchtime on Saturday, which is good news for Trick or Treaters.  The front lawns will be soggy and temps will be falling through the low 50s to the upper 40s , so dress warm.

Windy Day; Rain, Storms Move In This Evening; Heavy Rains Tonight

winds-10-30

radar-10-30

As you can see above, wind gusts have been 30+ mph today.  Be careful driving high profile vehicles and working construction on roof tops.

The rain and storms will be near the Tennessee River during the afternoon hours, but they will be slow to move eastward.  The approximate ETA for Nashville would be in the 6-8pm time period.

You may have heard about the tornadoes, flooding, and damaging winds that occurred in Arkansas and north Louisiana last night and early this morning.  The natural question is, “Will it be that bad here in Middle Tennessee”?  Although we have the potential for some damaging winds and flooding with heavy rains tonight, the situation does not look nearly as bad as it was to our west.  Nonetheless, we could see several severe t ’storm warnings and flash flood warnings ovenight, so keep abreast of the weather.

Good news for Trick or Treaters:

The rain will taper off by lunchtime tomorrow.  However, front lawns will be very soggy, and temps will be falling through the low 50s to upper 40s during the evening, so dress warm.

Windy, Warm… Then Stormy

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Temperatures this morning are more than 20 degrees warmer than yesterday morning. Highs today in the upper 70’s and very windy, gusts up to 30mph already recorded here in the early hours.

Cold Front Tonight

Predictor has consistently put the storms in Nashville between 6p-7p. A cold front arrives at the Tennessee River on our western boundry by 3-4pm. This front brings the risk of severe weather in the form of damaging winds and a sharp drop in temperatures. It should be in the Nashville area just after darkness sets in; temperatures in the early evening will drop from 70’s to 50’s. Heavy rain tonight, as much as 1″ to 2″ tonight.

THE WEEKEND

The rain lets up but continues overnight and through the first half of the day Saturday. Still thinking that the rain is gone by Saturday night for Halloween. That said, two of the four computer models show a second low moving over middle Tennessee bringing some light rain Saturday night. Sunday it’ll be dry but a high only in the upper 50’s.  The Titan’s game is at 3pm- we fall back the clocks Saturday night so it’ll be dark before the end of the game.  Predictor (and the NWS) calls for a dry trick or treat:

Tomorrow Evening

Morning Fog, Friday Storms, Halloween Rain

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Skies did finally clear, during the overnight that allowed for a thick fog to form. We start our Friday with Dense Fog Advisory:

Fog Advisory

The fog will be replaced quickly with cloudy skies and few passing showers. The rain chances continue through the afternoon and evening. Highs today around 70 as the wind picks up from the southeast. This is a major storm out to our west; heavy snow in the Rockies (up to 4 ft in some areas), severe weather in the Plains (tornado watches this morning) and the anticpation of flooding just to our west (Flash flood watches in Tn/Ar/Mo).

Major Storm System

We’ll have the wind pick up tonight as lows only drop to around 60. Highs tomorrow in the upper 70’s and very windy. A few passing storms could develop in the day but more likely Friday night as the front arrives. This front could produce severe weather and will certainly have a sharp drop in temperatures (from around 70 on a Friday night to the lower 50’s during the overnight).  The risk of severe weather is a worry of the Storm Prediction Center, mostly in our western and southwest counties.

Storm Risk Tomorrow

Cool and wet weather Saturday on the other side of this cold front. It appears a good soaking rain is in store for us through most of the day on Halloween. Right now it appears that this rain leaves by Saturday night for the trick or treaters.  Here is how Predictor shows Saturday morning: a soaking, cold rain (temperatures should be in the low 50’s with a brisk west wind):

Sat. Morning

Clouds Clear for a Nice Fall Day

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

We’ll start the morning with low clouds and temperatures still in the 50’s (they’ve been in the 50’s since Monday night at BNA).  Once the clouds break out we should have the temperatures finally get out of the 50-range and reach into the upper 60’s. A nice Fall day in store for us as a light south wind backs to the southeast and then east by evening. Tonight clouds start to build after midnight, a low in the upper 40’s. Rain chances start by tomorrow afternoon and evening as a strong cold front bears down upon us from the west. This front arrives on Friday with strong winds and storms. Temperatures might reach into the 70’s in the morning hours on the strong winds; the other side of the front it could drop down into the 50’s by Friday evening.  Predictor holds off the rain until Thursday night:

7pm Thursday

The Storm Prediction Center puts high storm risk tomorow with the front. That risk arrives here on Friday.

Temporary Break In The Rain In Nashville By 2:30pm

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

If you are following Stormtracker above, you can see a “back edge” of the steady rain about to clear Nashville.  That should occur by 2:30pm.  However, we should see another round of rain push in this evening around 6pm, which should taper off by midnight.  There is already fog mixing in with the rain, and that fog should increase overnight.  Lows should be in the low 50s.

Tomorrow should start of with low clouds and fog, but by afternoon the sun should reappear.  Highs on Wednesday should be in the upper 60s.

It’s been a wet October (after the second wettest September ever).  Read my entry below.

c-cam-10-27

Normally, rainy days in October are rare.  However, this October is the exception.  So far, we have had 16 out of 27 days with measurable rainfall (including today).  Check out the totals below (WTR is rainfall):

october-so-far-10-271

Forecast: Today’s rainfall will finally taper off this evening, but some fog should develop overnight in all of the leftover moisture.  On Wednesday, we will start off with low clouds and fog.  By lunchtime, the sun should begin to burn through, yielding partly cloudy skies in the afternoon with highs in the upper 60s.
