Saturday, September 26th, 2009

Be careful if you are headed out this morning.  Local flooding could occur.  Don’t drive across a flooded road, and be careful of hydroplaning.

Remember, TURN AROUND DON’T DROWN.

The heavy rain on the leading edge of the line of precipitation has shifted a little further eastward into Lewis, NW Maury, Williamson, SE Davidson, Wilson, Smith, Jackson, and Clay Counties in TN.  Behind that leading edge, moderate rainfall continues to occur.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for much of Middle Tennessee.

4 A.M. Saturday - Heavy Rain and Thunder

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

More rain, more thunder, more flood threats across Middle Tennessee early this Saturday morning. Nothing severe (at the moment, and severe t’storm warnings aren’t anticipated)…just water for places who have already seen too much water, which brings the potential for flooding problems.

Flood watch in effect for eastern Middle Tennessee through Saturday afternoon.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FOR MIDDLE TENNESSEE SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 40 AND EAST OF INTERSTATE 65 LATE TONIGHT AND SATURDAY…

.AN UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO RAPIDLY DEVELOP OVERNIGHT AND BRING ANOTHER ROUND OF SIGNIFICANT RAIN TO MIDDLE TENNESSEE. HEAVY RAINFALL IS POSSIBLE LATE TONIGHT INTO SATURDAY.

SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP TONIGHT AND LAST INTO SATURDAY. BANDS OF RAINFALL COULD PRODUCE TWO INCHES OF RAINFALL OR MORE. CONSIDERING THE RECENT RAIN, EXPECT SOME FLOODING TO OCCUR.

3am Saturday: Heavy Rain Is Here; Flooding Likely This Morning

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

The anticipated heavy rains have developed as you can see on Stormtracker above. Unfortunately, we are seeing a “training” effect with heavy rains continuing to push across the same areas from Hickman County to northwest Williamson, Davidson, Sumner, northern Wilson, Trousdale, and Macon Counties.

This could very well cause flash flooding.  If you plan to be out Saturday morning, be careful of water over roadways.  Remember, “TURN AROUND DON’T DROWN”.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for much of Middle Tennessee.

Possibility of Big Rains Ahead

Friday, September 25th, 2009

We run the risk of heavy rain late tonight and Saturday. Because of recent rains and the threat of 1″-2″ of rain at Flash Flood Watch is in effect for the this evening through tomorrow afternoon:

Flood Watch

We’ll have some afternoon storms today across our area. But late tonight and tomorrow some strong storms are possible with the threat of damaging winds. The rain threat starts to diminish by Saturday evening, it’ll be dry on Sunday with highs around 80 and a nice western breeze. Monday we’ll have a front move through and give a few passing showers. We might actually see the temperatures  fall in the afternoon down to the mid 70’s. Lows by Tuesday morning in the low 50’s, even in the upper 40’s in the rural areas. Welcome to the dry weather and Fall temperatures!

Slight Chances Today, Better Friday

Rain Chances West

Above Predictor shows the rain probability confined to the western counties. A slight respite from the rain today with chances over most of middle Tennessee only around 40%. Passing showers and storms more frequent along the western counties. Highs around 80 under mostly cloudy skies. There will be a little bit of rain around this evening and overnight as lows again hover in the upper 60’s (we should have lows in the upper 50’s this time of year; we’ve had a low in the 50’s only once this month).  By tomorrow afternoon storms again erupt across our area with a risk of isolated severe weather.

Big Rains Saturday

The upper level low stuck over the midwest is finally swinging overhead on Saturday. Rain and thunderstorm activity picks up Friday night and Saturday with the last threat of heavy rain for this wet month (now the 8th wettest in the last 20 years).  Right now Saturday is looking very wet and windy along with a slight risk of severe weather up on the plateau. Then the weather news turns better. Sunday looks to be dry than another cold front comes through on Monday producing a slight rain chance and ushering in the first Fall air mass of the season. Overnight lows in the 50’s and daytime highs in the 70’s with low humidity and mostly sunny skies.

jetstream-9-23

A very moist southwesterly flow will continue through Saturday with off and on rain and t’showers.  We may get a break in the action on Sunday behind a weak front which will dry us out more than cool us down.  But on Monday, a strong cold front pushes through giving us a chance for showers followed by significantly cooler and drier air.  We expect 70s for highs and 50s for lows much of next week, but we could see some highs in the 60s in our northeast and eastern counties.  40s are not out of the question for some of our overnight lows next week.  Of course,  this will sweep the air clean of all this moisture.  Can’t wait!  Bring it on!

Another GFS run showing the colder air dropping in from Canada next week.  Numerous back to back runs of the model usually verify.
