Summer Ends Like Fall

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Headlines Today

Today is the last day of August and the last day of meteorological summer.  But don’t expect it to FEEL like summer; highs today only in the upper 70’s with dewpoints in the 40’s. Today will be more like a late September day under mostly sunny skies. The rain chances this week stay rather small- only about a 20% chance starting mid-week with highs in the low to mid-80’s. Very nice weather, Predictor shows only a few clouds this afternoon:

Cool Temps, But It Feels Good!

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

lows-8-301

highs-8-30

Enjoy the cooler than normal temps, and low humidity.  Monday and Tuesday should also be mostly sunny to partly cloudy.

By Wednesday, clouds and a few scattered showers will “back in” from the east as an upper level low develops.  There will be chances for scattered activity from Wednesday into the weekend.  Click on the 7 Day Forecast to the right.

Nice!

cool-down-8-30

As anticipated, the cooler and drier air pushed in for Sunday, keeping temperatures in the 70s for highs and lowering the humidity.  Overnight tonight into Monday morning, lows will dip into the mid 50s across Middle Tennessee.  We’ll go for around 57 in Nashville, with temperatures about 2-4 degrees cooler in the outlying areas.

On Monday we will see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies with highs only in the upper 70s again.  Tuesday should be nice as well, starting off in the mid 50s and topping out near 80 under dry conditions.

By Wednesday, we will see some showers begin to creep in from the east, spreading westward.  Scattered shower chances will hang around the rest of the week.

Enjoy Another Breath of Fresh Air

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

Our normal high for Sunday is 86 and we are forecasting 79.  Our normal low for Monday morning is 66, and we should see 57.  Not bad! And this goes along with lower humidity, as well.   Skies on Sunday should be partly cloudy, but there could be  few isolated showers in our southern and southeastern counties as the cooler air pushes southward.

Another Shot of Cooler Air Pushing In!

highs-sunday-8-29

Another big shot of relief from the heat will be pushing in overnight, dropping temps to the low 60s by daybreak, followed by highs only in the upper 70s on Sunday (low 80s in our southern counties).  Tomorrow night, temps will fall to the 50s again, so enjoy some more comfortable temperature readings for this time of the year.  If you click on the 7 Day Forecast to the right, you’ll see no 90s, with highs in the comfortable upper 70s graduation to low to mid 80s during the week.

Few A.M. Showers Saturday, Then Clearing

Friday, August 28th, 2009

A front crossing Tennessee Friday night through Saturday morning will bring a few isolated showers to the mid-state.

Lingering moisture behind the front will keep a chance of rain in the forecast through midday in Nashville, but I anticipate a clearing trend through the afternoon as a northwest breeze sends in less humid air. The shower chance will linger into the afternoon for the eastern and southern sections of Middle Tennessee.

Highs will reach the lower-to-middle 80s in most spots. Some cool, Fall-like air is expected Saturday night through the middle of the work/school week. Look for lows to dip to the 50s, with highs only in the 70s starting Sunday and lasting through Tuesday.

Scattered showers this afternoon, possibly this evening

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Lunch hour in Davidson County will be dampened by some scattered showers, depending on your location. It’s mostly cloudy in counties along the I-65 corridor and points east (where the scattered showers are currently contained). Check out the visible satellite loop and you’ll note more sunshine west of Clarksville/Dickson/Hohenwald/Lawrenceburg line.

Scattered showers will linger through the afternoon, and then an isolated shower is possible this evening and tonight. You *may* have to dodge a short period of rain if you’re out at a high school football game tonight.

We’re waiting for a cold front to swing through the mid-state on Saturday morning. After that “fropa” (frontal passage) we’ll enjoy a north breeze and a preview of Fall on Sunday.

I’ll break down the rain chances for tomorrow (as well as get specific about this evening) on the afternoon newscasts on News 2.

Morning Rain Continues

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Rain pattern is holding this morning over I-65 south over downtown into the eastern half of Sumner county. Downtown Nashville has 1.32″ of rain so far, only a tenth of an inch at the airport.

A Little Morning Rain

Friday, August 28th, 2009

We’ve got some rain moving up from the southeast to greet the early morning commuters. No lightning but enough to keep the roads wet. Try to get an early start, most of it will be along the I-24 corridor southeast of Nashville and across I-40 to the east.

Rains Chances A Little Better

Friday, August 28th, 2009

This Afternoon

Again a south wind today brings in clouds and rain chances. Up on the plateau and in the southeast quadrant the rain chances hover in the 60% chance. For Mufreesboro, Nashville and points north and west the chances are closer to 30%. Highs today a little cooler, mid-80’s. A cold front moves over us on Saturday morning, a 40% rain chance the first half of the day.

Tomorrow Morning

Highs tomorrow in the mid-80’s. By Sunday the skies start to clear and the north wind ushers in dry and cool air. Highs will only top in the upper 70’s on Sunday and Monday as we close out meteorological summer with Fall weather.
