The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory for overnight tonight for between 2am-10am. As winds die down overnight under clear skies we are expecting temps to drop into the mid to upper 30s in may areas from I-40 northward (including Nashville), and in the eastern parts of Middle Tennessee. The frost will be most likely in low lying areas. Remember, frost can occur when the air temperature is above 32 because the ground is a solid object that can radiate its heat out rapidly, allowing it to get colder than the air above it (much like the top of or car).
Many of us have sensitive plants in our gardens already. It’s better to cover them with a sheet or a blanket rather than with plastic. The plastic acts like a greenhouse when the sun comes up, and causes the plant to heat up too rapidly, possibly damaging it.
