Halloween Forecast

Cold Start, Warm Afternoon

Lows this morning are again in the 20’s around middle Tennessee, 30’s in the cities. With clear skies the sun should warm us up very nicely- highs today in the upper 60’s. We’ll have much the same weather for the Friday and the weekend, just a little warmer. Dry weather is ahead all the way until Wednesday.

If you are your way out the door for your morning commute bring your sunglasses (sun at horizon at 7:08am). Another bright day!

Another Cold Night

Most areas down into the upper 20s tonight.  The official airport reading may be a degree or two above freezing but you get the picture… Bundle Up early Thursday morning.

However, we will warm up nicely Thursday afternoon.  With sunshine and a light southeast wind, temps should reach the upper 60s.

20s This Morning; Near 60 This Afternoon; Chilly Again Tonight; Then A Warm Up

Nashville officially bottomed out at 29 this morning.  Check out some of the7 A.M. temps around the rest of Middle Tennessee, especially our southern towns.

In all the brilliant sunshine we are seeing today, highs should creep up to around 60 this afternoon.  But with clear skies, expect more overnight freezing temps in the outlying areas, although they may come up 4-5 degrees from last night.  In the heart of the city, temps may stay a little above freezing with a low of around 34.

Then expect the real warm up to begin.  We should see highs on Thursday in the mid to upper 50s, followed by a high on Friday near 70.  We should see pleasant weather for Halloween, with temps falling through the 60s and 50s after sunset on Friday under partly cloudy skies.

Freezing Start, Nice Afternoon

This morning we watched the temperatures fall into the 20’s; we haven’t had a low in the 20’s in Nashville since late March (218 mornings ago). A HARD FREEZE (or KILLING FREEZE) is either four hours of temperatures at or below freezing or if the low hits 28 degrees. Inside Nashville and Murfreesboro (but maybe not Clarksville, its just little colder to the north) I don’t think we’ll have a killing freeze. That means you can wash off the frost (or maybe last night you covered things with a sheet). This will be the coldest morning for the next 7 days at least though tomorrow morning looks rather cold (about 35 in the city).

Nice warm up today with all the sunshine we expect (10hr, 47 minutes of it to be exact). This will get us at least into the upper 50’s if not 60 for an afternoon high. Not as breezy as its been the last couple of days; very nice afternoon!

Freeze Warning for Real Tonight

Low temps should bottom out in the 20s overnight.  Lingering clouds kept most areas above freezing early Tuesday morning, but with clear skies and light winds we should have no problem dropping well below freezing by the wee hours Wednesday morning.

We usually get our first freeze of the fall season around the end of October, so the frigid weather is right on target.

Plenty of sunshine again Wednesday but it will take time to warm up to the upper 50s.

Code Cold Alert

We get a December day here in late October. Highs today will only reach into the low 50’s, the average high for the first week of December. We expect strong northwest winds today allowing mother nature to make the point that it is a shockingly cold day (NW 10-20). Partly cloudy skies.

The big story is that it appears the growing season is going to end either tonight or tomorrow night for just about everybody in middle Tennessee. This freeze comes a little early (about a week) this year; the books will show a growing season of about 196 days in the basin area for 2008. Frost Watch in effect:

Heading to the Titans big Monday Night Football game (shown here on News 2)? Dress in your Titan’s blue and try to turn blue- dress like its a December night because its going to feel like one. Temperatures in the 40’s with a steady northwest wind blowing.

Cold Air Pushing In Overnight; Freeze Monday & Tuesday Nights

The above map shows the forecasted temps for Tuesday morning.  Tuesday night (Wed. morning) should be 2-3 degrees cooler than that.  After and Tuesday night, the growing season should be officially over.

As for tomorrow, dress the kids warm in the morning for lows near 40 with winds blowing NW 15-25 mph.  The high Monday should only reach around 53.

Freeze Monday & Tuesday Nights (Tue. & Wed. Mornings)

Get out the heavier coats!  The coldest air so far this season is moving in overnight.  By daybreak we should drop to upper 30s to near 40 across the area.  Monday’s highs will only be in the low to mid 50s with a northwest wind blowing 15-25 mph.  Bundle the kids up when you send them to school!

Monday night (Tuesday morning), we should drop to around 32 in the city with 28-31 in our outlying areas.  Tuesday night (Wednesday morning) temps should drop to near 30 in the city with 26-29 in many outlying areas.

Foggy & Cool Sunday Start, Mild Afternoon, Freeze Mon. & Tue. Night (Tue. AM & Wed AM)

Keep in mind the patchy dense fog we will see in many areas Sunday morning in the chilly temps (mid to upper 30s to near 40).  After that, expect a mild afternoon under partly cloudy skies with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Then the bottom drops out!  A cold front will keep Monday and Tuesday’s highs only in the 50s with freezing temps Monday night and Tuesday night (technically Tue. A.M. and Wed. A.M.).  We have only seen freezing temps in a few of our extreme eastern locations so far this fall, but this week all of Middle Tennessee should see their first freeze.
