Storms east of I-65, for now

At 3:00 PM in the afternoon, scattered thunderstorms covered parts of Middle Tennessee that are east of I-65.

No warnings have been issued yet (through 3:00 PM) but some of the storms will contain hail and strong wind gusts, in addition to the usual threat of lightning.  The storms are moving east-northeast at 25 mph.

It wouldn’t surprise me if one of the storms in the easter half of the mid-state prompted the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm warning over the next few hours.

There were some storms around Nashville earlier this afternoon, but right now things are quiet along I-65 and off to the west.

I’m very surprised that we haven’t seen the NWS put out any warnings with those storms. Expectally one that went through Carthage when they first started forming. But as you pointed out Justin, they’re no where near done yet. We may very well get some warnings tonight.

  2. Big lightning strikes here in Cookeville…just had my power knocked off and had to re-boot!

  3. Well, don’t I feel like the BIG WINNER!

We’ve got .54 in the handy, dandy CoCoRaHS rain gauge from the t-storms this afternoon! :)

Man it just seems like nashville and north of that can,t buy a rain drop lately and now nashville is only a inch and a half above normal in the rain bucket when at the start of june we were 4+ above normal.

  5. Olhausen…wanted to talk about shortfall…here was a post from my blog earlier this morning….

    RAINFALL REPORT
Yesterday’s rains brought us .23″…that is the most since June 14th and only the 7th day this month we’ve had measurable rainfall. A station just a few miles to my ESE reported .35 inches….interesting how he had 50% more rain yesterday than I did.

    Monthly Total: 2.11″
    June’s Average: 4.41″.
    2008’s Total: 23.27″
    Average is 29.18″
We stand at 79.8% of Average Annual Rainfall
While we are short, it is MUCH better than last year!

Speaking of last year, I ran a rainfall comparison report. From May 22nd through June 28th of THIS year, we’ve measured 2.88″ of rainfall….using the same period from last year, we measured 2.36″ of rainfall. Now, you may ask why that time frame?….I signed up for CoCoRaHS and began reporting on May 22nd last year. Also, last year was record-breaking dry weather. Of the 2.36″ measured in that time frame from last year, 2.02″ fell in one day (on June 20th)…so it was extremely dry.

Yes we are better off then cookeville mike but I just don,t like the trend since june first and fear another summer like last.

Are we still expecting a strong line? Cookevilleweatherguy says yes… what does WKRN say?

  8. chrish1 says:

edit: I am asking about a strong line in Nashville.

It is incredible how all of our systems seem to come through between 11pm-5am! There has to be a reason why they stall out during the afternoon to our west & then decide to get moving during our overnight hours.
