Rain Today, Good Weekend Ahead
We have warm conditions this morning, 20 degrees warmer than just yesterday morning. But clouds and rain overhead, the rain will increase in coverage this afternoon with a few storms in the mix. The rain continues into the early evening then clears to the east. This weekend looks great; we’ll have some sunshine and temperatures in the mid-50’s tomorrow; we’ll be in the 60’s on Sunday. Forecasted highs below along with how Predictor looks for the noon hour. Not expecting severe weather today.
Warmer Today
We have a very cold start this morning with temperatures in the low 20’s and upper teens. But a south wind and some sunshine will provide a big jump toward the mid-40’s by afternoon. We’ll have clouds coming in later today, those clouds will bring rain by tomorrow morning. The rain will be around most of the day, mostly light stuff. That should clear out by late in the day and we’ll enjoy a dry weekend. Yesterday it got above freezing at Nashville for only one hour, today will be much warmer.
Predictor shows a wet commute tomorrow morning:
Rush Hour Update
Most of the main roads here in Nashville are OK right now. I would watch out on the back roads. In the countryside it could be a different story. Areas in the shadows will likely be snow packed. In addition, black ice will be forming in many areas tonight, so be careful after dark and tomorrow morning.
Pretty Pictures, But Evening Rush Hour Could Be Slippery

Off and On Snow Showers The Rest Of The Day; Slick Evening Rush Hour
The radars can’t pick up the snow very far out from the radar site, so to see the “incoming new snow showers” headed our way you have to look at the Hopkinsville radar. The picture above (9:23am) shows another batch pushing down I-24. Click to see an updated Hopkinsville radar loop throughout the day To see farther “upstream” you can go to the Paducah radar, and the St. Louis radar. The Regional Radar Composite covers them all, but is not zoomed in as much for the detail.
Bottom line: Off and on snow showers (with some sunshine sometimes in between) the rest of the day. The Interstates have been well salted in Nashville, but back roads especially in the countryside will have slick spots. Temps should manage to get just above freezing this afternoon, but drop quickly into the 20s near sunset. Roads could be quite slippery for this evening’s rush hour.

Its Going to Snow for Awhile
As long as it keeps snowing in St.Louis you can expect the snow to continue around here. Mostly just flurries but in some places a dusting of snow (a few times!).

Schools Closed, More Ice Than Snow
We’ll continue to see the snow fly this morning as a cold winter blast keeps the temperatures down. Last nights snow turned into late evening ice as it melted on the warm roads (yesterday morning it was in the upper 50’s; it took till last night for them to finally hit the freezing mark). Light snow/flurries will continue, mostly the first half of the day. We’ll barely get above freezing but likely see a little sunshine late on. Tomorrow this will all be gone: highs will reach in the upper 40’s. Below are the chilly forecasted highs for today teamed with a brisk NW wind.
