Wet Weekend?

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

Today’s forecast calls for clouds and occasional showers.

Temperatures this morning depend on where you live. A stationary front separates cool air to the north from milder air down south. The map below shows the front’s location at 7:00 am. By this afternoon the front should lift slightly north. That will allow Nashville’s temperature to return to the low 60s, although the clouds and passing showers will continue. Areas north of I-40 will only see highs in the 50s.

Sunday temperatures will approach 70 degrees on south winds, but the sky will be mostly cloudy. Just an isolated shower chance in the morning, but a few scattered thundershowers could develop in the afternoon. It doesn’t look like a washout, but wet weather is a possibility for Titans fans at LP Field.

Monday should be cloudy with more showers and highs in the upper 50s. A few more rain opportunities are in the forecast next Wednesday and Thursday. A large-scale pattern shift should clear things out and cool us down by Friday or next weekend.

PS: If you don’t like today’s gloomy forecast know that at 8:00 am Saturday morning the temperature was -27 in Hallock, Minnesota!

Passing Showers

Friday, December 7th, 2007

A cloudy day in store for Friday with some light rain here and there. A mild start (in the mid-40’s) will led to a mild day- mid-50’s for an afternoon high. A 40% chance of rain today. We’ll be warmer on Saturday but still with some rain in the forecast, highs tomorrow will reach into the mid-60’s. Some storms are possible on Sunday with highs in the upper 60’s. Rain chances increase tonight and run through the overnight hours.

Pockets of sleet north of Nashville Thursday evening

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Reports of sleet in places like Paris, Ridgetop, Springfield and White House Thursday evening.

You may get a couple of shots of these ice pellets and then some drizzle in the counties north of Nashville through the evening. Temperatures at the ground should stay above freezing so it should melt quickly.

It felt like a raw winter day out there on Thursday but warmer springlike temps are on the way… just in time for all the Christmas parades! Is that a good thing or not??

The Nashville Christmas Parade is Friday night. You can ride the Music City Star in for the parade!

Also, Christmas in Downtown Dickson runs from 5 - 9pm Friday night.

A Cooler Day Ahead

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

The big cold front arrived yesterday afternoon: we went from 58 at noon to 39 by 4pm.. wow. Anyway this cold air is in place still today so below normal temperatures: highs in the mid-40’s (typical highs this time of year should be in the low 50’s). A few clouds around this morning then they return in mass this afternoon. Not nearly the wind of yesterday (winds gusts got over 30mph)- a little SE wind by afternoon. Tonight the cloud cover keeps us above freezing. We’ll have a little rain around tomorrow under mostly cloudy skies, a 30% chance with the favored areas being Nashville to the northwest.

Brrr.. It’s Cold!

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

That northwest wind howled with 35mph gusts Wednesday afternoon ushering in a cold winter night:

It will take a while to recover Thursday… still in the upper 30s just before lunchtime… but a “light” wind shift from the southeast by afternoon will push temps back to the 40s.

Warm Start, Winter-Like End

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

We have a front moving in by mid-day, turning the winds to the northwest and clouding up the skies. Ahead of the front we start the morning with temperatures in the 40’s, warming to the low 50’s before the front sweeps through. It’ll be in the mid-40’s by late afternoon along with 15-20mph winds. A few sprinkles are possible, perhaps even a few flurries on the plateau. Tonight the temperatures should drop to the mid-20’s - tomorrow a high only in the mid-40’s! Below are the forecasted highs for today: again they’ll be reached by mid-day.

Almost Clipped on Wednesday

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

A quick-moving clipper system will pass through on Wednesday, bringing some clouds and chilly conditions for the afternoon. A few isolated sprinkles are possible and by evening a few flurries could fly on the Cumberland Plateau. Temperatures will top out near 50 degrees around midday, but northwest winds will drop numbers back to the 40s in the afternoon. Lows will be in the upper 20s late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Highs Thursday look chilly, in the 40s.

A Little Warmer

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

A southwest wind picks up this afternoon to allow the highs to get to the low 50’s. High clouds will continue to come in from the northwest, getting a little thicker tonight. Lows tonight will stay above freezing, upper 30’s in the urban areas. Tomorrow a cold front sweeps through, a little drizzle is possible late in the day as temperatures fall. This could become a few flakes of snow up on the plateau tomorrow late. Below are the forecasted highs for today:

Cold Wind Blowing

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

The big front and rain pushed through yesterday late in the day. Through the overnight the temperatures dropped from the evening’s 60 degrees mark (at 9pm!) down to freezing at daybreak. Don’t expect much of warm up today with this NW wind blowing (gusting over 20 through the morning hours)- we’ll only reach into the low 40’s. Sunshine by mid-day as the winds die down later in the afternoon. Tonight we’ll have temperatures drop to around 30 as a few clouds and a little bit of south wind show up to help keep us from getting TOO cold. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday back into the 50’s. Below are the chilly forecasted highs for today:

Winds whip around to the northwest tonight, dropping temperatures to the 30s by Monday morning. Gusts will reach 30 mph tonight. Despite plenty of sunshine, it will be a struggle to rise past the middle 40s tomorrow afternoon.
