Cold Wind Blowing

The big front and rain pushed through yesterday late in the day. Through the overnight the temperatures dropped from the evening’s 60 degrees mark (at 9pm!) down to freezing at daybreak. Don’t expect much of warm up today with this NW wind blowing (gusting over 20 through the morning hours)- we’ll only reach into the low 40’s. Sunshine by mid-day as the winds die down later in the afternoon. Tonight we’ll have temperatures drop to around 30 as a few clouds and a little bit of south wind show up to help keep us from getting TOO cold. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday back into the 50’s. Below are the chilly forecasted highs for today:

Good rain here. I would image about or a little more than a half in is what we received here in Sunny-South-Nashville. Whatever it was is was needed. MTWC Seven Day, Forecast for the week, Winter Snowfall outlook released.

  2. Brrrrr…went out to check the CoCoRaHS gauge this morning..combine the 30° temp with the strong north wind and it’s downright cold! :)

  3. David says:

Clay I am sick of you spamming your crap site quit already !

  4. Chris says:

I hope Clay is right. If we can total around 7 inches for this season that is a decent winter season for us.

  5. blog police says:

    Clay, David is right.

This isn’t a venue for you to promote your website. That is the definition of spamming.

If you want to comment, that’s great. If its on topic discussion, that’s great too. But your forecast holds even less water than the forecast of a met, which isn’t saying much, because most of them have no idea what’s going to happen anyway.

And btw, your snowfall map should have some sort of discussion as to the critical question of “why” snowfall will be that way. I could make a map saying Middle Tennessee will get 300 percent of average annual snowfall… but it doesn’t mean anything unless I can back up my statements.

  6. Chris says:

November Temperatures averaged above normal. When will the streak of above normal temp months end? Looks like law of averages would catch up and we would have a cold month or two. What is the longest string of above normal temp months?

  7. sick of clay says:

Clay, your site is absolute nonsense.

WTH is up with >2″ along the Gulf Coast? Don’t you know how to use the greater or less than sign??? I’m pretty sure they taught that in first grade! Dolt.

  8. Haig says:

“When will the streak of above normal temp months end? Looks like law of averages would catch up and we would have a cold month or two. ”

There is no law of averages.

But one thing is certain: as soon as we do have a cold snap, the usual suspects will be on here making ill-informed cracks about Al Gore.

  9. Cameron K. says:

My high was around 47. I did not reset the extreams on my weather station. Wind chills were in the 20’s.

  10. We think alot of Clay around here boys! He works hard on a website that is his hobby. I guess the poster in post #7 hasn’t ever made a mistake in his life, must be nice to be so perfect………PLAY NICE KIDS!

Just as their is no ‘law of averages’, there is no man-made global warming. As any scientist worth his salt knows, the sun goes through different sorts of explosions that kick out more heat and then less heat. These account for the record heat of the 1930’s and also account for the record cool of the 1960’s and 1970’s. Neither side in this debate is willing to be convinced the other could be right.

  11. Clay says:

Hey guys let me clear this mess up. Thanks Mike for helping calm everyone down. First off all David, Sick of Clay. I don’t understand why you guys went down so hard on me and the site where I post. If you want me to stop posting updates after I attempt to spark a conversation you could have acted mature and asked politely (and I would have corrected the problem). Oh and thanks for letting know about the messed up sign on the snowfall map. To be honest I made a careless mistake. Come on guys lets not start up this blogging junk that happened last year. Any additional suggestions or criticism about MTWC can be sent to this email address: middletnweather@gmail.com - One of the admin(probably me) will respond. (calling MTWC a “crap site” isn’t an email I will respond to) Now back to weather! :)

  12. Matt5797 says:

Haig, for every person making a stupid remark disregarding Al Gore there will be one making one praising the man with no degree whatsoever in science. BTW why don’t you leave clay and his site alone, no harm that I can see in his posts. Funny how you call his posts spam but we have posted all this stuff discussing its validity.

  13. HARRY123 says:

How is the snow outlook for this winter? In middle tn area?

    Thanks

  14. Jammer says:

I was in Chicago over the weekend. They got a pretty good ice/snow storm there. More on the way for them this week. 2 storms (one tomorrow, one Thursday) could bring 6+” of snow for them. If the upper Midwest is snow covered, does that correlate to cooler/colder temps for Middle TN with the snow pack moving further & further South?

  15. Cameron K. says:

I suppose if a wind coming out of the north(heading south towards us) was blowing across the snow; that could be a varible in the forecasted highs for middle TN. Thats just my thoughts

  16. Matt5797 says:

the snow pack will not have an impact of any note on anyone this far away. As I said in other posts, we need the jet stream to dip below us and then we will be ready to snow.

  17. Haig says:

I never said anything about Clay. I’m delighted he takes the opportunity to investigate things.

What I find objectionable is this: “there is no man-made global warming.” And for what it’s worth, I’m not sure there is either, or if there is, to what extent it affects the climate. But I find ridiculous a set of assumptions that the clearly non-scientists make in these comments:

    1. That “weather” is identical to “climate.”

    2. That all climate change is due to “natural” variation and has seen precedent before.

    3. That Al Gore is a liar whose case has no empirical basis.

    4. That Al Gore is a hypocrite because he uses carbon offsets for his plane travel, air conditioning, etc. (Do you know what they are? They actually do offset carbon dioxide emissions, whether or not you believe CO2 has an effect on climate.)

    5. That climatology has no predictive significance, when in actuality the modeling and predictions have been fairly consistent.

I’m not a scientist, but few on here are. And I really do have an open mind about this, and I think Kyoto is flawed without “developing” country participation. I’m no zealot, but it’s almost literally insane to assert “there is no manmade global warming”– even the scientists who argue against dramatic action don’t say things like that. That’s just not a position that reflects the way science works, but rather reflects an ideological commitment to a very narrow worldview.

I urge people to keep an open mind on this subject. It’s not a Republican vs Democrat issue, despite how you may feel about Al Gore, and there is enough reasonable evidence on either side that to waste time dismissing the other side marks you as a partisan hack. So please, no more confusion of two days of subnormal temperatures with the overall climate picture, no more references to Gore, and no more politics. We’re better than that.
