A Cooler Day Ahead

The big cold front arrived yesterday afternoon: we went from 58 at noon to 39 by 4pm.. wow. Anyway this cold air is in place still today so below normal temperatures: highs in the mid-40’s (typical highs this time of year should be in the low 50’s). A few clouds around this morning then they return in mass this afternoon. Not nearly the wind of yesterday (winds gusts got over 30mph)- a little SE wind by afternoon. Tonight the cloud cover keeps us above freezing. We’ll have a little rain around tomorrow under mostly cloudy skies, a 30% chance with the favored areas being Nashville to the northwest.

It is a chilly 29 degrees here in Sunny-South Nashville this morning. Did anyone besides Mike in Cookeville see any flurries?

  2. Andy says:

We had a good round of flurries here in Glasgow Ky last night.

  3. I see a little smattering of rain might be in the forecast for tonight into Friday morning. Interesting, that kind of ‘popped up’, didn’t it?

  4. Cameron K. says:

Got down to the mid 20’s last night. Had a wind-chill go down to 8 degrees yesterday.

Whew would that be awesome. It just pop up on this 06z run so…….

  5. I see where a station 8 miles east of Erwin, TN up in Unicoi County in upper East TN had a 1/2 inch of snow reported.

  6. Chris says:

It will probably snow the week of the 16th - 21st because I will be gone on vacation that week.

  7. Jim in Spring Hill says:

Wow, the 7-day forecast is showing chances of rain on 6 of the 7 days. We still need a lot more. BNA is still reporting nearly 12 inches below normal for the years (and that’s with all the rain we had in November — imagine what it would have been like if November had been dry). Don’t see us catching up before the end of the year but maybe we can get the deficit down into the more manageable -4 or -5 inch range.

  8. toddrix says:

The GFS has gone crazy with snow possibilities starting next Thursday!! i don’t trust the model, but its interesting to look at, especially since its only 7 days out.

  9. Andy says:

There is a chance of snow here tonight :) I hope we get a little.

  10. Heath says:

Radar showing a lot of Blue North and west of here. Are we in line for some white stuff tonight?

  11. Chris says:

Unfortunately, a major warm front is in the works for later tonight. That’s why it’s expected to be springlike starting tomorrow. Upper 50’s

  12. Chris says:

Um… This is not the same chris by the way but that mass of moisture now crossing the Mississippi looks mighty ominous … I don’t trust this at all. I’m always the one who yells for snow but I think we’ll see snow tonight!! Maybe even enough to keep the temps down and perpetuate the snow!!

  13. Chris says:

I’m worried that here east of Nash it will get dark and the temp will do a nosedive and some of that moisture will push this way and give us a good burst of snow!

  14. Chris says:

Not with this low of a dewpoint but still — scary!

  15. Chris says:

How many Chris’s are there? LOL

  16. Cameron K. says:

I-I-I too many. So are there three Chris’s now? Yahoo url/website Chris, Chris H, and regular Chris.

  17. Andy says:

That precip. is headed my way up here in South Central Ky. NWS seems to have nothing to say about this. They only offer us a 10% chance of precip. I am not sure what I am missing, but this looks to be headed our way.

  18. Stay tuned boys and girls, this ‘might’ be interesting…there is a logical explanation for all it!

  19. Chris says:

I apologize, I’m Chris from entries 12-14, from Cookeville TN. Usually the only messaging from me on here happens in winter :)

  20. Chris says:

IF the precip can penetrate the dry atmosphere it may be funny tonight :)

  21. Andy says:

Paducah was reporting sleet earlier. I am interested to see whats going to happen with this.

  22. And here we have it from the Memphis NWS:

Issued at 3:57 pm CST Thu Dec 6 2007

A light mix of snow…sleet…freezing rain…and rain will be possible this evening over Northwest TN. This precip should remain light with only trace accumulations possible. This may result in minor travel inconveniences with some ice spots possbile on elevated road surfaces where temperatures are at or below freezing….temperatures should warm to above freezing tonight so any frozen precipitation should change to all rain.

“Re-typed by me”…translation..yes, in NW TN we could see SOME frozen precip but it will change as the temperatures rise. Nothing for Middle TN or the plateau. :(

  23. Teran says:

Come on snow just a little more east.

  24. Matt5797 says:

Dewpoint is at 24, so it would be low enough to snow, but layers would have to saturate. Its going to be a beat the clock sort of deal.

  25. Clay says:

Wow where did this come from… the last time I checked the radar there was nothing in our area. Come on snow!

    http://www.mtwc.blogspot.com

  26. Matt5797 says:

    sleeting and snowing in Hendersonville!
