Get Ready For A Whole Lot of Rain! Where Was This Last Summer?

As a Gulf low forms and moves northeastward, we expect more rain to push in tonight (possibly mixing with a little sleet like earlier today-no problems). The rain will still be around on Sunday, eventually mixing with some thunderstorms, especially Sunday night into Monday morning as temperatures warm. Before it is all over Monday afternoon, I think many areas could see 1-2″ of rain.

Lows tonight will be in the mid to upper 30s to the north to low 40s south. Sunday’s highs will be in the low 50s with rising temperatures Sunday evening.

Check out the Regional Radar Composite.

Few Showers With Sleet Mixing In

If the sound of the precipitation hitting the bushes outside was a little louder than normal, that’s because we have some sleet mixing in with some of the shower activity that has made its way into Middle Tennessee (prematurely, I might add!).

This first round of precip will move out this evening, but more wet weather is expected Sunday, Sunday night and Monday. This Regional Radar Composite.

Weekend Forecast

Temperatures are in the 20s early Saturday morning. We’re waking up to sunshine, but the satellite loop shows that high clouds will thicken later this morning. Those clouds will keep afternoon temperatures in the middle to upper 40s.

Despite some virga on the radar (precipitation that dries up before it reaches the ground)…wet weather should hold off most of today. A few sprinkles are possible later this evening and tonight. Showers on Sunday will be spotty, but heavier rain is expected Sunday evening through Monday. We’ll be on the lookout for thunderstorms Sunday night through Monday midday. The air won’t be very “juicy” but this weather system will pack strong winds, so we’ll keep a close eye on things.

Temperatures cool off by Tuesday and stay that way the rest of the week. Another system will reinforce the cold air by Thursday, when temperatures will struggle to reach 40 degrees. Welcome to late fall!

20s Tonight… A Little Milder Saturday

We’ll wake to mid 20s in the Music City Saturday morning but a light south wind will warm things to near 50 by afternoon.

Clouds will increase but any showers should hold off until Sunday… especially Sunday night.

Great football weather for the last of the regular season games!

Bundle Up… Again

Another day in the mid-40’s but at least we’ll have some sunshine and have less wind. Tonight it’ll get cold, down into the 20’s. Clouds again around tomorrow but not bringing much in rain chances. That will be on Sunday when a strong storm system comes out of the Southwest and into Tennessee. This brings very good rain chances by Sunday night and the look for a very, very wet Monday morning commute. Heavy rains are possible with even a few storms. Below are the chilly highs today:

Shoppers Bundle Up FridayMorning…But Sun Returns

sunrise-friday-11-23.jpg

If you are going to be standing outside of a department store tomorrow morning, and I know many of you will be, bundle up. Temperatures will be below freezing, running around 30 in the city with some upper 20s north and east of Nashville. Remember to bundle up the little ones, as well. A hat, gloves, and warm boots would do them well.

The sun should return as the day wears on, and winds will only be around 5 mph. That will make the high of 46 feel a little more tolerable.

Rain will be returning on Sunday, Sunday night, and Monday. It should be a pretty good soaker from a Gulf low. We could see 1-2″ of rain in many spots, maybe more in isolated areas.

Cloudy, Cold T-Day

The cold front swept through around midnight (around 4am on the plateau) and ushered in colder temperatues. After two days in a row of 70 degree weather we won’t see those kind of warm weather again for some time. We’ll only be in the mid-40’s today with just a glimpse of sunshine around Nashville and west later today. Tonight we’ll drop down to the upper 20’s, highs tomorrow under partly sunny skies only in the upper 40’s. Welcome back early winter!

No Warnings Since Storms Crossed TN River… That’s a Good Thing!

The Severe Storm Watch Box is all but cancelled at this time.

Still, we can expect the line of storms to bring a period of heavy rain, gusty winds and lightning.

Areas north of Nashville will see the t’showers first.. between now and 9:30-10pm.

Areas from Nashville south will have to wait a little longer…. 10pm and later.

Storm Threat Tonight

stormwatch.jpg

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch for west Tennessee continues until 11pm.

We should anticipate some storms retaining there strength as they push east of the actualy watch area… especially in the northwestern corner of middle Tennessee including Clarksville, Hopkinsville, Erin, Waverly.

Predictor hints that the line of storms will be moving into Nashville after the 11 o’clock hour but they are maintaining their speed so I believe it will be closer to 10/10:30pm.

Strong winds, some hail and heavy rains are the main threat.

First Wave of Rain Not Severe; Still Watching This Evening and Tonight

gfs-11-21.JPG

AVN/GFS model’s isobar forecast for midnight tonight.

The good news is that this first round of rain is giving us some much needed rain without any severe weather. However, the cold front is not expected to push through Nashville until around 10pm to midnight. This will be accompanied by a line of storms that could be strong. We will also be monitoring the scattered storms in between the two systems. Some of those could be strong, as well. It will be an hour by hour thing as far as monitoring for severe weather. Then, the bottom drops out! Temps should fall to the low to mid 40s overnight, and never rebound any higher on Thanksgiving. It will remain cloudy with northwest winds 15-30mph.

Thanksgiving night into Friday morning should bring upper 20s for lows in the city, with mid 20s to the north of town. Friday, should only be in the mid to upper 40s in the sunshine, followed by mid 20s Saturday morning (upper 20s downtown Nashville).
