Outside for Memorial Day

Justin Bruce touched on this a little during the show this morning; middle Tennessee over a slew of activities to enjoy for the long holiday. Both Nashville Shores and Wave Country open for the summer starting tomorrow, the Watkins and Kripatrick Spraygrounds open up today (but not Metro pools- not till June 4th or 5th). Tomorrow Cheekwood opens its “Once Upon a Garden” display that will be there all summer, its a garden tour of all the classic storybook tales we grew up reading. This is the last weekend to enjoy the Tennessee Renaissance Festival, its’ last day is Monday. The Lebanon Car show is also this weekend; it draws a huge crowd in the seat of Wilson County.

And I would be amiss not to mention the National Cemetery in Nashville where almost 35,000 American soilders are buried. Once a year they plant flags at every grave; they’ll be doing that on Sunday for full display on Monday. It is located on 1402 Gallatin Pike; take Briley Parkway to the Gallatin Pike exit and head toward Madison. The cemetery is next to Briley on the left (there is a private one on the right).

Feel free to post comments about other events this weekend around middle Tennessee. If you are an organizer of an area festival or event please e-mail us so we can mention it on-air heading into the weekend of the event.

    Jeff…..

Cornerstone Church in Madison is having a BIG tribute to those in uniform.

    From their website:

Join us on May 26th at 5:00 PM or May 27th at 10:00 AM as we do our part by honoring those who have served and the ones who today do battle on a level that many of us will never know. Facing death, peril and danger every day, these men and women know what sacrifice is. Events include a Salute to the Armed Forces, a special choir performance, an award-winning armed exhibition Drill Team, and an Honor Guard. Join us as we pay tribute to these great servants.

615.865.6655 or just off I-65 @ Old Hickory in Madison.

Don’t forget the veterans cemetery that is at 7931 McCrory Lane just west of Nashville. The one on Gallatin Pike is full and this is where they are burying veterans now.
