Just as we talked about before, now that the sun’s down and temps have dropped, the melted snow has frozen into ice on the roads. I drove around, the roads are dangerous, especially bridges and overpasses. Even main roads are slippery. Travel is not recommended. TDOT has a map outlining slick roads, especially interstates. To see it, CLICK HERE.

Thanks for the update, Davis. Yes, the roads are definitely SLICK — do not drive if you do not have to.
Here’s another pic. after the ’snow burst’ a few minutes ago.

Man Verbatim!, That is some bursting of the snow.. Nicceee

Haven’t the salt trucks been out today? I would think that the interstates would be pretty good by tomorrow morning after daybreak, don’t ya think? I really need to get to Lebanon no later than 10am. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will be possible by then.
Clay,
I will gladly post my pics on your forum, but it said the HTML code was turned off for guests, so I registered and I’m awaiting approval.
Thanks.
Dang ol’ talkin’ bout’ no dang ol’ ice and da’ snow dang ol’ all da’ frozen on da’ dang ol’ roads, yo man dang ol’ be careful

OK TDOT SHOWS ALL INTERSTATES HAVE PATCHES OF SNOW AND ICE! MY MOM AND HER BOYFRIEND JUST GOT IN AND THEY SAID THEY FISHTAILED ALL THE WAY HERE. IT’S LIKE A SKATING RINK HERE. AS WELL A GOOD LAYER OF ICE ON EVERYTHING AS WELL AS SNOW ON TOP. BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL. IF YOU HAVE A TIRE TRACTION BUTTON IN YOUR VEHICLE TURN IT ON IT WILL HELP YOU. OR IF NEEDBE BE VERY SLOW DOING ANYTHING AND TAP YOUR BRAKES WHEN STOPPING. SEVERAL CARS HAVE FISHTAILED. AGAIN ROADS EXTREMLY TREACHEROUS HEY RYAN HOW’S THINGS YOUR WAY.
It worked when I logged out a posted a test post with a pic. Hmm…
Can any other guests confirm that the posting section was messed up for guests?
The roads here in the Boro are extremly bad. Its a solid sheet of ice thats impossible to drive on. So make some hot cocoa and just stay in for the night. Be safe!!!
It’s obvious that the secondary and city roads are going to be tricky, but can anyone confirm what the interstates are like at this hour? Please?????
Clay, I tried to upload some pics to your site but I got this message:
“HTML features has been disabled for guest posting, sorry for the inconvenience caused”
To curiousdriver:
When I was last out, I was on I-24 in the Robertson/Cheatham area, and the interstate wasn’t too bad yet, but the exits were getting really slick. This was around 7:30pm.
Thanks Sandy! Now I can address the problem.
Well curiousdriver:
It appears sections of interstate 40 and 24 are very dangerous especially right now over carrol, henry, humphreys, stewart, dickson, robertson, cheatham, and especially davidson county at this time. again as davis put up a map TRAVEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED. i agree with that other areas of snow moving in from the northwest light snow here and all roads secondary and main are extremely icy and snowy. BE CAREFUL.
To MTWC posters: I will have to tell Kailyn Leto about the problem. I can’t seem to figure out how to turn off that security function on the Admin board. While he and I are both admin, he knows his way around it a little better than I do. For now you may just have to register. It takes like 2 minutes and you can post whereever you would like. Sorry
Watch out its like car skating out on the roads in Nashville

Road are terrible up here in the Cookeville area. My wife and I have been out on the main roads and back roads…both are snow covered and hazardous….
temp right now is 26…brrrr
still not home yet…posting from inlaws
What’s exactly is the email address for sending in pics to News 2? I should know this by now… =/
What*
To News 2(esp. Lisa & Davis) & the folks at the NWS in Old Hickory…
Good call on the Special Weather Statement. The local meterologists have picked this up and are advising the public.
The roads are quite slippery. It just doesn’t take much around here to cause havok.
You guys did a good job forecasting this one. Everything pretty much happened as you said it would…right down to temps, snowfall amounts, etc. everything (the best I can tell) went off without a hitch.
To my post above, Jeff & Justin did a good job too!
I agree wwith the last post with anonymous, great job with forcasting this one you nailed it to a tee. Great job!!
roads here in clay county are really bad! alot of people hitting the ditch!! i think theres well over 2 inches of snow here!
anybody know a site that actually shows pictures of interstate from Knox. to Johnson City?
Just got home from the hockey game… 65 has many slick spots, and it looks like many of the ramps are slick (judging from the police cars next to people who’ve landed in ditches). 840 was slick, and 31 through Thompson’s Station/ Spring Hill is slick. We did see many salt trucks out, even scraping 31 at one point.
I can back up what Rachael just said. I just finished driving from Cool Springs to Spring Hill via I-65, 840, and 31 between 10 and 10:30pm. The Interstate wasn’t too bad. All wet, no slick that I found. The exit ramp from 65-south to 840-west was extremely slick and 840 itself was fairly slick. By the time I got to 31, it wasn’t too bad. Just slick in a few spots — mostly the overpass over 840. Other than on 840, I was able to run 50 - 55 most of the way.
Copied and pasted from a post on talkweather:
Don’t drive in Nashville! We had a consistant wet snow fall all day starting about 1pmish…it didn’t accumalate as the temps rose to near 35 degrees; however, we are now paying for that. The wetness turned to ice in no time. Light snow continues, but appears to be tapering off. We recieved around an inch, as the NWS in Nashville said all along. Parts of the Cumberland Plateau received 2-3″ with local reports on the top of the plateau of 4″+.
The local mets are headlining to stay home!
verbatim, it’s weather@wkrn.com
Careful about that refreeze. If at any time you wipe out the announcer will say the judges won’t like that one lol. No really, be careful while out driving, that’s why I don’t have a license. joking I’m only 13.
Also, I must agree with the post from anonymous & Nick above..
Good job to everyone on this one, you called it 100%!!
Just got home and WOW…it’s slick here in on the Plateau….
4 inches at my in-laws in downtown Cookeville
3.5 inches at my home in northeast Cookeville
…hearing some higher amounts over near the Clarkrange/Jamestown areas…
…no news just yet on whether our church will or will not have early service…I think the 2nd (late) service will be fine…maybe not as big a crowd.
I only have one complaint about the handling of today’s weather, during the week if we have school closings it is posted immediately, but today I had classes @ Trevecca, at 7am nothing was posted yet we were postponed until 10am, thankfully my lecturer called and informed us, but nothing was posted on the tv until sometime after 8:30am, way after my classes would have started…apart from that it was a good call alround
The roads are very slick Joelton. I don’t think we seen any rain today, just snow and some sleet. I live on the main highway in Joelton and the cars are just crawling. Be very careful if you are going out, bundle up and stay warm. Don’t forget your pets.
OK ya’ll, please pray or keep your fingers crossed for me in the morning. I trapped 3 feral kittens tonight so that I can take them to the once a month clinic called Snip n Tip in Lebanon from the Wilson Cty Humane Assoc. I need to be on the road by 8:30. Since 90% of the time I’ll be on I-40, I hope to be ok. Geesh, of all weekends for the crappy weather!
SPAY & NEUTER your animals!
hey guys! looks like this was and will be the biggest snowfall of the year. i live just outside of cookeville in a town called algood. we picked up a little over 4 inches of snow. maybe it will stick around for today(sunday), but looks like the temps will make it melt on monday. i love the snow, don’t get me wrong, but i’m ready for some warm weather. how bout you guys?
