Thanks to Julie Myrick for this picture from Lafayette, TN this morning.
As mentioned previously, the east and northeast sections of Middle Tennessee saw a little snow flying in the air and on the ground this morning.
Now, we all know that the models can flip flop quite a bit when you try to forecast out 3-7 days. However, the two main longer range models are showing a chance for an accumulating snow during the second half of the work week. The AVN/GFN shows a Gulf low that could bring us snow Wednesday night through Thursday. The CMC or Canadian model develops snow with that same Gulf low, but not until Thursday through Friday A.M. with a possible mixture of snow/sleet rain south of Nashville.
I’m a little like some of you, I’ll believe it when I see it. However, those are the possibilities as of now.
We’ll update this as we get closer, but we know that the readers of this blog want to know the latest.

Davis
Thank you for the update regarding the posible!?!?!? winter storm heading to middle tn this week. I look forward to updates in 24-48 hours.
wow! if we can get some unison on these models mentioned above in like 48-60 hours, i may (just maybe) start getting excited, and doing my snow dance, which usually never fails. anyway, thanks Davis! just out of curiosity, how comes the late week temps dropped so much compared to the earlier forecast at 12Z? no matter, not gettin my hopes it…i must say being in alabama, it’s a win-win situation for me! if it doesn’t snow back in TN, I haven’t missed anything! if it does snow, i’m driving back no matter if i have to miss class for it! lol!
I believe Wednesday to Friday’s winter weather forecast is the snow / sleet storm that middle tn has been waiting for since December 2006. I can wait to see 4-5 inches of snow!!!!!!
REMEMBER!!

Sounds like Channel 4 is on the bandwagon for this week. They mentioned a system coming in, but their temps are surprisingly warm, too warm IMHO. Just have to watch the models crumble where they may.
Why doesn’t it snow as much in Middle Tennessee any more? As a young person in the 70’s - we got snow all of the time!!!
You may have answered this already; but I’m new to the site. Thanks for the work and all of the information.
After glancing at what James Spann had to say on his blog (alabamawx.com) I feel almost encouraged by this weeks chances. Take a glance, its an interesting read.
lk, I think climatological cycles have a lot to do with the below normal levels of winter precipitation. There’s a myriad of other factors but that would be the primary one IMO.
“After glancing at what James Spann had to say on his blog (alabamawx.com) I feel almost encouraged by this weeks chances. Take a glance, its an interesting read.”
You’re right, that is an interesting read. If what he says is true then winter is definitely not over with the Southern U.S. I just hope we don’t see another ice storm…snow storm is great, but noooo ice!
Davis or anyone of the News 2 wx team, what do you think of James Spann’s predictions for the upcoming weeks?
lk,I was wondering the same thing.Im 33 yrs old and I always tell my kids about the big snows we used to have.
Where did they go?
That was so long ago that I remember Tom Siler working at channel 2.

HEY RYAN YOUR SCHOOL IS CLOSED YOU BETTER BE GLAD!
HAHAH Dont effect me none, I go to Columbia State Community College brother. They havent closed school since the 80’s! LOL I would love if they closed due to illness.. OR SNOW!
Add Heavenly Host School in Cookeville to that school closing list.
Also, at 8:14 pm, I have:
16.5 degrees with
a 7.2 degree wind chill….
Recorded a 2.5 degree wind chill at 7:57 pm
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee…..it is cold!
Keep your pets safe, the cold temps are coming up. Not all pets have big bushy feathers like my ducks.
oooooooo ryan ur in college ok!
I saw those models earlier and I said i though wed. night looks like a GOOD 2-4 inch snow chance with heaviest moisture in south tennessee and north alabama
like davis said though gabe all of us could be getting HEAVY SNOW.
Just curious Aaron, anything for williamson.
if u mean school closings nope i havent heard of anything just yet i’ll keep you updated though cameron.
I sure do hope MAURY COUNTY is closed tommorrow(but im almosot 100 percent sure its not). Im going to be absent anywway but it would be nice if that day didnt count against me and I wouldnt have makeup work.
temperature here in algood is now at 10 degrees (themometer at my basement)with a wind chill somewhere around 1 or 0. man its cold. the seven day looks impressive. maybe we will see our first decent snow of the year!!!
Hi Everybody,
I have a second where I can answer a few questions.
Cameron,
The AVN/GFS totally flipped on the warming towards end of week. We’ll see.
lk and Becki,
Yes, during the 70s there was tons of snow, especially the winters f 1976-1977, and 1977-1978. During the 50s and 60s there was more snow, as well. I believe there are cycles, and we will one day see years of lots of snow again.
Eric and Verbatim,
James Spann is a personal friend of mine, and an excellent meteorologist who I admire very greatly. He calls the long range “voodoo land”, but I love the way he gives you the latest that he thinks.
Wouldn’t do me any good either. I’m home schooled, but I always like to know if my county schools are closed. Shaq725 why are you going to be absent tomorrow just wondering?
Ill be at the hospital during my Grandmas surgery….It would only seem fair if the county kids are out you could be out too
I agree Davis, James Spann has a way of giving his forecast. Why don’t you mention our blog to him, love to here his opinions about our weather? Altough this weekend it’s Brian Peters working.
shaq725,
We wish your Grandma luck on her surgery, and that she makes a full recovery.
man you guys never learn. your going to get your hopes up for snow once agin and and news 2 will call for snow once agin all week and then when the day comes for snow they will downgrade and lie about what they said all week and say although we never said much more than a dusting in nashville this is downgrad in the snow forecast fore tonight and you will all be bumed out just like the last 40 times they have siad it will snow.anyway im predicting it will not snow this week
you must think that name is clever, huh?
Haywood,
I find that the folks who read this blog want to hear what the latest is.
I bet that’s why you yourself read it.
Also, everytime I have downgraded a forecast, I said so and did not lie.
Davis
P.S. Your opinions are OK to post, but profanity and lewd insinuations will not be allowed.
And introducing Jason as “haywoodjablowme”.
Fox17 has got to be outta their dang mind. Temps in the mid 40’s with the fronts bringing in reinforcing shots of cold air? Are you kidding me? Being a client of accuweather is fine and dandy, but I think they do a real disservice to our community. Just my opinion.
Is it me or does it look like this system will past us to the south. I know it is still a few days out but that is what it seems to be trending too. Not like it is surprising though. We get cold air and it is dry as a bone.
Um….look at GFS it shows good moisture especially I-40 south on wed. night
The models have been a bit to far south this year so far so I would not worry about that happening just yet . If it is still that way with 48hrs to go then think that way Here is a GFS run for Thurs
http://nashvilleforums.com/nashville/index.php?topic=101.msg399
Im talking about the Nashville area. The models I have seen show all the good moisture in south TN and the Nam didn’t even have any moisture in TN at all.
thats fine with me….i live 45 miles from the BAMA border…lol. Anybody else seen the “POSSIBLE” MONSTER storm next monday?
Yes Gabe, GFS predicting “Armageddon” for Days 8-10…
PREC

TEMPS: (thats right, negative teens on the plateau…hahah)
http://weather.cod.edu/forecast/AVN/OFFAVN/avn_usUS_2_temp_228.gif
I don’t think that will pan out as modeled.
the negative teen thing is bull….although not impossible, record low in my town is -26. However i am really thinking wed. night and thursday is gonna be our time.
ANybody else think that TWC is awful when it comes to winter weather. The only thing I like from TWC is Greg Forbes…severe weather guy.
The 540 line seems to be out on tne TN/AL is that the break down between rain and snow
http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/pmb/nwprod/analysis/namer/gfs/12/index_slp_m_loop.shtml
make sure the end of the link says index_slp_m_loop.shtml
NWS starting to get on bandwagon now. Although i disagree with there temp. predictions. If it starts to snow when it is 26 degrees and you get an inch or 2 overnight that temperature is NOT gonna rise much at all….certainly not to 41.
Hey Cameron…the other models i have seen….i think 2 other ones put the 540/0 line southe of huntsville Al and Florence AL.
Even the graphic davis used tonight showed north alabama and mississippi in the snow….so apparently thats his thinking also…as of right now anyways.
Lets not forget if the air aloft is cold enough it can snow when its 34 or 35 also. However if this begins wed. night like i think it will temps the next day wont climb
btw is it 36 or 48 hours when a winter storm watch gets issued?
Yes, if it really starts snowing at a pretty good rate at 26 degrees I don’t see that temp rising to much either.
I think we would have been right a few snow chances ago had it start snowing at 27 degrees but we were forecasting a few days out and the weather changed. So we did not get down to our once forecasted temp.
I got to leave for the airport at 9:45 am going to DTW(Detroit) flights not until noon, but you know security traffic.
Good night.
Thanks for reply, Davis. I really, really hope this potential big snow maker pans out. For once I would like the “flip-flop” to go OUR way which is a BIG snow…I think everyone can agree on that.
I agree with you on the Wed - Thur. temps, Gabe. If we get some accumulation (half inch - 1″) Wed. night then the temps shouldn’t climb into the 40s.
Goodnight
Eric im getting about tired of your stupidity. I POST UNDER MY NAME JUST LIKE THIS ONE I have never posted under another name.
