A few forecast points to keep in mind:
- Our best opportunity for snow will be late tonight and early tomorrow morning, before many people wake up.
- Southern sections of Middle Tennessee will see a mix or just rain to start, not snow.
- Areas north of I-40 will have more cold air to work with, but less moisture.
- Any snow that does accumulate will be followed by some rain, so there will be melting.
- There should be a relative break in the action from late morning through afternoon where precipitation is spotty/light.
- An additional round of light precipitation is expected late tomorrow.
- It will start as rain or a mix but should change to light snow late Thursday night into early Friday morning.

Hope you are wrong about the rain.would like to see all snow all day.
so in other words to be nicely
no snow for us.. ha ha ha…
wow im moving to florida.. i think the chances are higher there…
The grocery stores will still be packed today and this evening.Alot of schools will be closed tomorrow if there is indeed snow in the morning.
Not being mean justing but predictor has changed it’s mind 3 times already.
Also why is north alabama under a WWA if they are getting onlye rain…..forgive me if i don’t trust predictor to much right now. If the first two weren’t right How can I believe this run.
Okay…I just about jumped out of my skin when I was changing screens…then went to check my inbox and all the sudden I heard Jeff’s voice coming out of my computer..
Whew!! Nice touch…that oughta come in handy especially during “wall-to-wall” events..
NO RAIN NO ICE ALL SNOW…
Well, I can WISH, can’t I???
justin, i agree with what you are saying…but why in the heck are there winter weather advisories as far south as birmingham…makes no sense…seems what you’re saying is contrary to other forecasts i see…like northern alabama seeing 1-2 inches is bullshnizzal. hmmmm…i wonder what’s up in the minds of those at NWS -Huntsville. seems it will be more rain than anything there.
Models are already faltering…
USE THE OBSERVATIONS. Go through the western parts of the South — Arkansas, Texas, Oklahoma — to forecast. Models aren’t going to help us anymore.
by the way, i wouldn’t imagine the changeover to sleet/rain will last long because if it does rain, evaporation will take place, even if it is gradual, and because evaporation is a cooling process, the air temps should decrease back to a degree level favorable for snow. jason, do you think if we do get 1-2 inches before the rain, that it will ALL melt or just partially melt?
at least the cold temps are staying around this morning. if the clouds hold up…it shouldn’t heat up as fast. i would imagine even if we did get rain tomorrow afternoon…it would freeze on contact since it’s been 12 in nashville 2 of the last 3 nights…and single digits most other places…i’m not sure the exact temp. difference b/t the ground and air for tomorrow…but i would imagine it would be favorable for ice…
26 degrees+moisture=snow which=happy bloogers.
All we need is for those temps not rise and we should be good.
I live 965 feet above sea level and live next to a hill thats 1037 feet above sea level. I would like to see a map that shows at what elevation the most snow will be likly to fall, but as always(most of the time) it will probely be the cumberland platou.
Cameron….I agree that anything over 900 feet helps your chances…where i live i am close to 1,000 feet and many times when it rains in nashville it is snowing here in hohenwald….remember the mysterious I-65 storm last year….the I-65 corridor is not all that high in elevation.
Local weather service offices issue the winter weather watches, advisorys, warnings and what not. The Nashville office may be a bit more conservative than our neighbors to the south.
It will certainly be interesting to watch it all unfold. Not sure about predictor showing all mix or rain in the south. HUN is forcasting 1-2″ by early morn in its southern TN counties. It may very well change to rain. However, early am looks bad in the south. Temp forcast busted in the southern counties this morning with many lows down in the single digits instead of mid-teens. Hope that translates into more frozen precip tonight. One thing is for sure, the ground is rock hard.
HUN is generally considered pretty conservative in the watch/advsy area as well. However, they have different thresholds for advsy issuance than BNA. Right?
I dont think you will see a changeover north of I-40. But that is why I am just a hobbyist.
doesn’t anybody have faith? we are gonna get a big one!
SNOW AND SLEET COULD MAKE TRAVEL HAZARDOUS LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT
INTO THURSDAY…SO PEOPLE SHOULD MONITOR UPDATED FORECASTS AND BE
PREPARED FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF A WINTER STORM ACROSS THE REGION. (This is what http://www.noaa.gov is saying about alot of the TN area for tonight and tomorrow. Surely, if North Carolina is expecting up to 4 inches, we will be that in TN. Crossing my fingers!!!!!!!!!!!!
^^^and I can tell you exactly where we are going to take ‘the big one’ too.
Kailyn - In what way are the predictors wrong about TX, et. al.? Are they getting more or less snow/ice than projected?
