Rain and Falling Temperatures

Latest News 2 StormTracker image.

A cold front crossed Nashville just after 5am this morning, coincident with the rain that will continue most of today. Behind the front, winter’s much-anticipated return. Temperatures will fall through the day; early morning numbers in the upper 60s yielded to 50s during the morning commute and should dip to the 40s by late afternoon.

Tomorrow morning will be a shock to the system; especially for those that don’t follow the weather on a day to day basis. Tuesday will start in the lower 30s but feel like the 20s due to a gusty northwest wind.

40s dominate our extended forecast. That’s cold enough on the heels of this weekend’s lower 70s…but it’s always worse somewhere else. Glad I’m not back forecasting for the Upper Midwest on days like this.

Betcha wouldn’t want to be doing any of those LIVE shots outside either, eh???

    BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR….now THAT’s cold!!!
    ;-)

  2. Ryan says:

Any chance we get some wintry precip on the backside of this later tonight and into tomorrow?

This is an odd system in that most of the precip seems to be well behind the passing cold front. I doubt we get anything but it seems like a setup where we could have some snow showers or frzg rain tonight?

  3. Football55 says:

Tonight: A chance of rain and snow showers before midnight, then a chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. North northwest wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Hmmmmm…..Sounds pretty intresting( they have this forecasted for southern middle)

  4. Jason says:

  6. Ahhh we will get a lil light snow or sleet behind this thing and that will be it. But im really glad those 70s are outta here!!

  7. Matt5797 says:

Jason, we are not going to experience any freezing rain buddy. the passed us almost 6 hours ago and we are at 57 degrees, its going to be like 09z Tuesday before we will be at and 05z before we would even be at a temp conducive for sleet.

  8. Matt5797 says:

i mean the cold front passed

  9. Jason says:

Matt wrong wrong wrong!!! Let me know in the morning buddy

  10. Clay says:

Please don’t disappoint us again, Justin.
    We want something frozen.:)

  11. Cameron K. says:

What do the long range models say about the next few weeks, now that we will be back to cooler weather. I’m sure any strong, moist cold front will give us snow. It’s much easier for a cold front to go through 40’s than trying to go through the 60’s.

This is what happens when you have a stubborn ridge. We would have had snow, or at least freezing rain, with a weaker ridge or none at all…

  13. The temp was dropping here at a good clip but its hung on 51.6 for the last 3 hrs.. :(

  14. Kailyn Leto says:

I’m thinking your temperature has reached the dewpoint…but it should start falling again fairly soon.

  15. Glenn says:

Has anyone noticed that accuweather’s radar has snow in Memphis…

  16. Glenn its messed up.. I seen that this morning about 7am.. I thought the same thing untill I seen their temp of 50..

  17. Glenn says:

Yeah I checked weather.com and it said it was 39 in Memphis with light rain…

You guys, it will NOT snow. As usual this one is a bust. The moisture is already leaving Arkansas. Meteorologists almost always err on the side of snow in this part of the country. Everyone knows that. I’ve got relatives in East Arkansas and there is no snow or ice.

  19. shaq725 says:

really its not a bust they never said we would definitely see snow but hey im not surprised

  20. Clay says:

Ya, I know, Shaq. Somebody says snow flake and the blog goes nutts. (ie.) We’re gonna get a bad icestorm or hey maybe we’ll get an inch or so, but still, it is kinda sad that we’ve gotten four or five scares and have only recorded a trace amount of snow. So much for getting 150% or our average 10″(accuwx). Although Winter isn’t over until march, it sure does seem like it.(snow)
