Almost Surrounded By Tornado Watches

Watches.jpg

Finally a chance to post a blog on the net!

There were tornado warnings earlier this afternoon for Wayne, Lawrence, and Giles counties. Luckily, those storms weakened, and there were no reported touchdowns. There are some more storms moving northeastward out of Alabama that we will have to watch. Sharon Price, our friend/observer in Huntland in Franklin County (bordering Alabama) called to say that the low level clouds were moving very quickly from the south, with mid level clouds above them moving quickly from a more southwesterly direction. This indicates strong shear that can develop severe or tornadic storms. We will be monitoring Stormtracker very closely this evening.

We will also have to keep our eyes peeled over the weekend as a cold front approaches from the west.

I’ll have more on that after I finish our 6pm newscast.

    Davis,
Do you think we will have a chance of tornado’s in the Nashville and Murfreesboro areas tonight? The storms that moved in from our SW earlier died out, do you think the others will do the same? What time should we start getting prepared on Saturday?

  4. Davis Nolan says:

    Dear David,

It will be a wait and see situation. So far most of the storms lose strength as they move northward. My guess is we won’t see them in Nashville and Murfreesboro tonight, but it is not a lock. I will be monitoring the situation.

Awful muggy/humid air out there this late tonight.

Now it’s dark, hard to spot anything in the rural country side. I hate these storm systems which take several days to follow thur. When I look at these clouds like the ones this afternoon, I wonder how much these mountains add to the wind shear.
When I went grocery shopping I got all microwave food so the family can quick fix once the weather action heats up and I have to start parked outside or on computer.
I hope all these coaches have back plans in case the weather gets bad during games tomorrow and tonight. Don’t you know what a head ache that is for EMA officals trying keep folks safe!

    Davis,
Since there hasn’t been an update for a few hours, are we in the red anytime soon or into the night from the Alabama Tornado’s… heading toward us?
Is it safe to go out, etc???
Thanks in advance for the response.
