It looks really nasty up there in KY, I wonder if this is a sample of what we could get tomorrow night. There is a tornado warning for a couple of counties up there the one that is close to the TN border is up near Hopkinsville.

It looks fairly bumpy out there right now, and I think it could be that way into sat/sat night, as far as the severe weather threat for the nashville area, I am fairly sure we will get svr tstorms sat night, I don’t think an “isolated” tornado can be ruled out at this point. I felt alot of muggy air/moisture in the air when I went out tonight, it just feels like the right conditions, I wonder what Davis thinks about this as well.

  4. Davis says:

No damage reports yet. But I expect some.

  5. Timothy Parry Jr. in Gallatin,TN says:

    Davis,

do you think we will see something similar to the current weather in KY on Sat night? Would like to hear your thoughts on the situation.

    Tim

  6. Davis Nolan says:

    Dear Timothy,

It is certainly possible. We are just going to have to monitor that situation. We have a strong low level jet, shear in the vertical, and an approaching front.

  7. Mike says:

    Davis,

Is the threat for the damaging stuff going to remain to our NW tonight? (I live in LaVergne) Also what is the time frame tomorrow for our shot at severe weather with the passage of the front? Thanks for all your hard work!

  8. David F. in Murfreesboro says:

    Davis,
I bet you didn’t think you would have people to talk to at Midnight did you? Thanks for answering our questions though.

I thought I heard either you or Justin say today sometime that ya’ll thought the front would weaken before it actually brought tehe storms in here Sat. Night, has your thoughts on that changed a little?

  9. Mike says:

How ya holding up David? Long time no read man…

  10. Davis Nolan says:

    Mike,

It looks like it will stay north of Lavergne/Nashville tonight.

    David,

I can’t say the front will weaken. It’s going to be a wait and see situarion tomorrow night.

    Davis

P.S. I enjoy the company at midnight!

  11. David F. in Murfreesboro says:

Yeah I know. I’m doing alright tonight, but I’m not looking forward to Saturday night. I hope there’s not as much going on. I don’t think I’ve seen you on here since that one night we were on here till like 2 in the morning.

  12. Mike says:

Well, we have been fortunate for the most part with little severe weather over the summer, so I looked in from time to time, but nights like this feel more like April or November you know?

  13. Mike says:

    Davis,

This is slightly off topic, but still weather-related, do meteorologists such as yourself have storm shelters at your homes? And if so, do you recommend safe rooms or underground shelters?

  14. David F. in Murfreesboro says:

Yeah I know. I saw on the weather channel tonight that this was a historic tornado outbreak for this time of year. I think something like 36 tornado’s have been reported. It’s been so long since we’ve had weather this severe that it feels like I’m getting ready for spring instead of the 1st full day of fall.

    Davis,
I was trying to find on the internet the total number of tornado’s by month in TN but can’t find it. do you have any clue where something like that would be?

  15. Davis Nolan says:

    Mike,

I am lucky to have a basement. I think shelters are a good idea, if they are built correctly.

    David,

The “tornado data base” and storm summaries at NWS (link at right)are the most I know. I don’t think there is a breakdown there by month.
