Good Rain Chances Tonight & A Great Lunch With Our Friends From ABC 33/40 In Birmingham

Though there is the usual chance for some scattered t’storm activity this afternoon, chances will remain above normal overnight. Usually, the summer activity dies soon after the sun goes down, and temperatures cool. However, tonight a pretty decent short wave trough and vorticity maximum in the upper atmosphere will pass over Middle Tennessee keeping our chances high overnight. On the upper air map above, I have a red dashed line drawn through the axis of this feature. The activity is usually on the east side of the axis which reaches us Saturday morning. Therefore, our best rain chances will be from midnight through the early morning hours here in Nashville. Areas south and east of town may see rain chances persist through around noon.

Meanwhile, it will be a hot Friday afternoon with a high of about 93-95 and a heat index around 100 degrees. Don’t overdo it if you have outdoor plans on your Friday afternoon.

On a different note: Yesterday (Thursday), I had the pleasure of having lunch with Meteorologist James Spann and some of the folks from ABC 33/40 in Birmingham. James brought along Brian Peters, J. B. Elliot, and Intern Drew McCombs.

You may have seen Justin link you to their weather blog (click here) for some interesting weather information in the past.

James is always up to date on the latest technology and the latest weather happenings in our business, and is so kind to share the info with others. You may see some of his ideas show up on News 2 one day in the future.

Two things our stations already have in common (besides ABC affiliation) is a weather blog and a 24/7 digital weather channel.

Anyway, we had lunch at one of Birmingham’s most popular “meat and three” restaurants “Nikki’s West”. Good stuff!

Intern Drew McCombs got a new nickname thanks to me. James said he’s been looking for a nickname for Drew. He’s a big, strong kid, and looks like a high school buddy of mine we nicknamed “Jethro” (Beverly Hillbillies). I told James, and it stuck. Sorry Drew!
