watchfri.jpg

The biggest threat with these storms is large hail. Earlier, 2″ hail was reported 2 miles south of Charlotte in Dickson County. To see the warnings, click on the “Watches and Warnings” icon above right and refresh often.

So far they are all passing south of Nashville.

Few T’Showers Near AL State Line

Friday, May 26th, 2006

A couple of showers and t’showers have popped up near the Alabama state line south of US Highway 64. Davis and I will keep tabs on it through the afternoon with Storm Tracker. Check it out on the NWS Radar Loop at the top of the blog.

Midday Update

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Hot and humid the next several days. Highs near 90 degrees with dewpoints in the 60s. I don’t pick it, I just predict it. Small storm chance this afternoon but the majority of folks stay dry. A slightly better chance for areas in southern Middle Tennessee but still just hit and miss. The visible satellite loop shows a few more clouds (therefore upward motion) across that part of the mid-state with some fair weather cumulus for the rest of us. Off to lunch but I’ll be back in a bit; we’ll keep an eye on Storm Tracker this afternoon but won’t expect too much to happen.

If you watch the video forecast through early/middle afternoon…it turns out that awoken is a word, but awokened won’t cut the mustard. Now I know.

Weekend Air Show in Tullahoma

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Neil Orne mentioned this weekend’s Tullahoma air show on Thursday and Friday (the air show is Saturday and Sunday). Here’s the scoop in case you’re in search of weekend plans: the U.S. Air Force’s Arnold Engineering Development Center’s Wings of Freedom 55th Anniversary Air Show honors all active duty military personnel and veterans. Gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The air show is presented by the U.S. Air Force and the Tennessee Regional Air Show Coalition of the Manchester and Tullahoma Chambers of Commerce. Hot and Humid, Isolated Storms

Friday, May 26th, 2006

The title says it all; we are going to be under the same air mass over the three-day holiday. Expect daytime highs around 90 and isolated storms by afternoon and early evening. Some of the storms could produce severe weather, we’ll watch them with Storm Tracker as they develop to keep you posted. We expect the first 90 degree day of the season today!

Update 2

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Amazing lightning cluster heading into Hardin County, next county over from Wayne County on the Alabama state line. We don’t cover that county (there is an ABC affiliate in Jackson, Tn) so I won’t be going on air when Memphis warns on it. Strongest storm in our viewing area just leaving Van Buren on the eastern fringe of our viewing area headed north of Chattanooga. Looks like some quiet time ahead, everyone get back to sleep. If any county gets a warning next hour it’ll be Wayne or the southern tip of Decatur.

Update

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Several warnings last hour for the southern counties fo Marshall, Lincoln, Moore, and Franklin counties. The line has lost some of its punch as we approach 3am. Very strong storms diving out of West Tennessee headed for Decatur and Wayne Counties, perhaps our next set of warnings. Under a watch until 5am for the southern half of our area.

Severe Storm Watch until 5AM

Friday, May 26th, 2006

The greatest threat for severe weather will be south of I-40 through the wee hours Friday morning.stormwatch.gif

Expect frequent lightning (which, of course, is what wakes everyone up!!), pockets of hail and some isolated areas of damaging winds.

The storms are rumbling in from west Tennessee right down I-40 at 1:20pm. They will continue to sink a little further south as we get through the night.

The good news is… this should be over early Friday so we can have some serious heat… I’m thinking we could push 90!

More Storms Overnight

Thursday, May 25th, 2006

We now have a Tornado Watch in effect until 1:00AM Friday morning north and west of Nashville.

A line of storms that stretches across southern Indiana into southeastern Missouri will move into Tennessee mostly likely after 9PM.
