Hot, Humid and…Well…You Know

Weather Headlines

I imagine just about everyone could guess the forecast today: hot, humid, with afternoon storms cropping up in the heat of the day and lasting into the early evening. Slow moving storms could produce localized flooding like they did in Lawrence and Cannon Counties yesterday. Tomorrow a cold front finally arrives from the northwest, it took it three days to get here from northern Missouri. This front changes the weather pattern; after the best chance of rain all week on Thursday and Thursday night we’ll have cooler and drier weather in store for us Friday and into the weekend.

I welcome the afternoon rain. It really cooled things down out here in Clay County yesterday.

You can keep the thunder and lightning though. It upsets Thunderdog way too much!

  2. Balena says:

Sometimes it is funny all week we have had thunderstorms around us here in Sumner County Hendersonville. All we would get is thunder and sometimes wind but no rain.Hopefully we will get the rain today so my plants will be happy.

  3. David F. in Murfreesboro says:

    Jeff or Justin,
I have a premium weather account and it said the high yesterday as reported in Smyrna was 97 degrees. How is this figured into the record highs? I know during the news cast ya’ll will say that the record high for today is …., but does that just include the Greater Nashville Area?

  4. Justin says:

I don’t know where Smyrna’s thermometer is located, but it always runs hot. Everyone else will report 98 and Smyrna will come in with 102. Any official thermometer should be placed 5 feet off the ground away from direct sunlight and over an open grassy surface away from buildings. That’s why bank thermometers and you car thermometer usually run a few degrees warmer than the actual air temperature. The official number we report comes from the Nashville International Airport.

  5. Leslie says:

Hey Justin, I am taking my nephew to the zoo this afternoon, will there be a chance it will storm or just pop-ups that last for an hour or less?

  6. Carla says:

Jeff, As I was just watching your forecast on channel 245 I couldn’t help but think it would help us watching a LOT if you’d quit standing in front of Nashville as you ran the time lapse. I didn’t catch the whole broadcast so the part I did catch had the time lapse and forecast going on…. BEHIND you. Not too helpful!

  7. jason says:

Yea lol get out the way :)

  8. Chris H says:

Do you want a forecast that is handpicked for your street address, too?

  9. Anon says:

Is this a weather discussion blog or something else. I post here frequently, but it seems lately this is turning more into a “socializing to pass the day” blog. Could we please just try to stay more on the topic?

  10. Balena says:

    I agree with you Anon.

  11. Bobby Cox says:

    So, how about them Braves?

  12. Stephanie P. says:

Well, Anon, there hasn’t been a whole lot exciting going on in the ole weather world the last few days. Just heat, humidity, and the occasional storm. We’ve got to entertain ourselves somehow… and work doesn’t cut it. :-)
On a weather related note, anyone see the report today where they’re calling for 9 Atlantic hurricanes this season? It always seems like a crapshoot when they put these out. I think it’d be easier to say whether it will be a busy or light season and save yourself the grief of picking a number. But, what do I know? ;-)

  13. Christina says:

Anon, I have to agree entirely with Stephanie P. I have followed this weather blog for quite some time and you may not believe it but there had been days (many months ago) that there were absolutely NO COMMENTS at all for days at a time! Seems like we are a harmless enough group of weather geeks (a friendly term) that we can get involved in discussions other than the weather! I think EVERYONE enjoyed the DJ Lightning discussions a few weeks back which had very little to do with the actual weather taking place!

  14. Melissa says:

Stephanie, I really hope those 9 stay out at sea. I’m from the Outter Banks of NC and my grandmother has been in her house a year after Isabelle came for a visit. Needless to say, she was not a kind house guest and flooded the place.

  15. ok to stay on the topic…HOWS THE WEATHER? LOL

  16. Melissa says:

See now no one wants to talk…weather or otherwise. Good going anon

  17. Christina says:

Hi Melissa! Hows life treating you… oh, I almost forgot to stay on topic… How’s the WEATHER in your part of (I assume) Tennessee?

I know where servocrow has been and that theweatheroracle has relocated but where is weatherdawg? Sulking about being apart from the theweatheroracle maybe?

  18. Anon says:

Hey it is some of you who will cause them to yank this blog, not me. It just never gives the guys/gals at news2 a chance to give any educated input in regards to the weather, because it is always about something not really related to the topic of weather.

  19. CJ says:

If the mets haven’t pulled the blog over the Dickson kid who can’t spell or listen to school closings, they probably aren’t going to pull it over the topic varying from time to time.

  20. Jason says:

Anon it’s all in good fun. The guys and gals at News 2 understand this is a blog for weather crazed folks. We like to have some funny so take it easy and live some. Btw Justin with the front comming threw tommorrow is there enuf disturbance with this to warrant true severe weather???

  21. Anonymous says:

    Anon,

How COULD anyone blame you if the blog got yanked? No one knows who you are.

Posting under the “Anon” cloak lets everyone know that you have no backbone with which to stand.

Yey, now I’ll be like you and do it too!

  22. Anonymous says:

being Anonymous doesn’t mean no backbone.you probably don’t have a life.
