Yesterday it hit 90 degrees (official high: 91) at the Nashville Airport; the first time this year we hit that mark. Nice to do it on Memorial Day where most could escape to the pool or lake. Today same story but we are all back to work. Hot, Humid and afternoon storms with highs again around 90 if not a few degrees above across the southern counties. Weather changes on Thursday as a cold front comes through and produces our best chance this week of widespread rain and severe weather.

Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. I stayed home most of the time. As for me today…. I’m off to the lake while everyone else is back to work. It should be like a ghost town.
93!?!?!?!
My son and neighbors were at the air show in Tullahoma on Sunday and were caught in the storm - now known as the “Porta-potty” incident since all the unoccupied ones blew over. Does anyone know the max wind gust during the storm? My neighbor believes it was at least 70+.
burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrp!!!!!!!!!
Was at an outdoor wedding this weekend, how I would have loved a pool to relax in afterwards.
Actually, I was kind of glad I had to come into the office this morning since it’s chilly in here. No sweating outside for me!
Love the heat!!! It’s about time too. Nothing like sitting by the pool on a hot day. So what if that pool is a foot deep.
Is it too soon to tell if it will be a severe weather outbreak Thursday?
Thursday: Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high around 83. Calm wind becoming west southwest around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY
ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAY AFFECT THE MID-STATE WEDNESDAY
AND EVEN MORE SO THURSDAY AS A FRONTAL BOUNDARY PUSHES ACROSS.
.SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT…
ACTIVATION OF SPOTTERS AND EMERGENCY MANAGERS IS NOT ANTICIPATED
AT THIS TIME.

Mid level lapse rates and a weak deep layer shear near the front moving through on Thursday will probably hinder any chances of a severe outbreak. Just my opinion.
Did anyone notice that it is just a touch warm outside?
Eric,
So that’s why it feels like I’m about to DIE when I step out my front door!
Yep, it’s a touch warm! LOL
To everyone unfamiliar with Tennessee and it’s freakish weather…
Say hello to what it will feel like until mid-September! Amidst all the storms and tornadoes we have smothering humidity and sweltering heat. It’s something one person never quite gets used to. I have lived here my whole life (all 29 years) and I STILL am not used to it.
Oh well, that’s why Watson’s sells above ground pools.
Where I grew up it didn’t get like this until July and we don’t have a/c up there so it was always fun in the summer. I don’t mind the heat so much down here since I’ve got a/c everywhere I go!
I have heard the humidity and heat are worse than here in TX and LA.
It has been said that Texas has “dry heat” so I can believe it’s worse than Texas. Been to Louisiana once but it was in the fall. Davis could probably tell ya how bad it is there.
Now on the other hand, if you think the humidity is bad here, ever been to Memphis during the summer? My goodness, the temp is about 3-5 degrees warmer and the humidity about 10 points higher than here in middle Tennessee. Walking through downtown Memphis is absolutely brutal during the summer.
But as Stephanie so eloquently put it, “I have a/c everywhere I go.” Oughta be an annual RU-134 Manufacturers Appreciation Day.
This weather patter we have sucks right now. this darn low needs to move on threw so the clear days can get here.
The worst thing about this time of year is that it is always freezing in my office. I have to dress in layers even though it’s 91 degrees outside. I look like an idiot walking through downtown in a sweater in this heat. Ugh.
Jason, we are directly underneath an area of high pressure. The clockwise spinning of the high is sending moist, humid air into our area. If you look at the News2 radar you can see how the storms are moving in a “clockwise” motion. They are spinning around the high. When it is this warm and this humid, we have the “popcorn” type thunderstorms. Sorry to say, but this is as good as it gets during the late spring and summer months. When the cold front comes through on Thursday, the high will get lost and hopefully the humidity will follow it.
well the airport insmyrna has the latest readingsaying it is 95 degrees …is that right news2? seems like it is that hot out just went to the bank in smyrna and wow its hot!!!!..i see some showers off to the northwest hopefully they will come here to cool things off.
Mark, I hope its not that hot there. I live right down Weakley past the airport. Could be the heat coming off the tarmac. Rain would be nice!
hey eric it know shows its 96 here…copy and paste this link and see for yourself
