Wednesday Forecast

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

Cold this morning with mostly cloudy skies across the mid-state. Temperatures will hit the middle 50s this afternoon, but with only a few peeks of sunshine and a good breeze it will feel chilly. An isolated flurry or drizzle drop is possible this morning under those clouds in the higher elevations of the mid-state, but it won’t slow things down one bit. Thanksgiving looks cold, with a northwest wind keeping highs in the middle to upper 40s. Black Friday morning looks very chilly, with early morning temperatures in the upper teens!

Highs for Wednesday November 23rd

For travel: a good 3 to 4″ snow fell in the mountains of TN, NC, VA on Tuesday. We do expect some snow today in the lower Great Lakes from Chicago to Cleveland, and a wintry mix is possible in Cincinnati. I’m showing a general travel forecast for Wednesday and Thursday on the morning show, but if you’re travelling I recommend that you head to www.weather.gov and use the National Weather Service’s clickable map of the United States to get the details. Travel safely!

Monday wasn’t all wintry across the mid-state. Most of us dealt with clouds and rain, but Nick Ross captured a beatiful sunset out on the Tennessee River in New Johnsonville.

Chilly Tuesday Forecast

Highs for Tuesday November 22nd

Breezy and colder conditions are in today’s forecast. Morning windchills are in the 30s thanks to a northwest breeze. We will see some sunshine today, although clouds will hang tough most of the day along the Cumberland Plateau. Despite any sun, highs will only hit the middle 40s in most spots. Our northwest wind will blow at 10 to 20 mph the first half of the day and 5 to 15 mph this afternoon.

You can check temperatures and conditions through the day here or here.

Snow on the Plateau

This Alaskan Malamute (or Siberian Husky?) must have enjoyed the snow in the Welchland Community in Van Buren County Monday evening!welchlandsnowdog.jpg

TDOT had to bring the salt trucks out… there was about an inch of accumulation as the morning rain changed over to sleet and snow.

No chance for snow in Nashville but they may get a few more flurries on the northern plateau on Tuesday.

Snow/Sleet In Southeast Middle Tennessee

Monday, November 21st, 2005

We’ve talked to folks around McMinnville in Warren County and Smithville in DeKalb County who have been seeing sleet and snow. This will be around our east and southeast counties for another several hours before leaving. There will be no accumulation. Another cold front may bring flurries to the plateau on Tuesday.
If you are seeing snow, you can e mail pictures to weather@wkrn.com.

Information On The Nashville Weather Channel

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Nashwxchannel.jpg

During the severe weather event last Tuesday night, you may have noted that we continued our weather coverage on “The Nashville Weather Channel” for several hours after other stations quit. So you may be asking, what is “The Nashville Weather Channel”, and how do I receive it?

The Nashville Weather Channel shows weather for the Middle Tennessee area 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In just a five minute segment, you will see News 2 Stormtracker, regional temperatures, regional radar, and satellite maps, as well as a 2 minute segment done by The News 2 Storm Team.

During times of severe weather, we will continue to broadcast our continuous coverage on The Nashville Weather Channel, even after News 2 has gone back to programming. This is what we did for several hours last Tuesday night, after most stations had gone back to programming.

So how do you receive it?

Comcast Digital Cable carries us 24/7 on Comcast Digital Cable 185.

So what if you don’t have Comcast Digital Cable?

If you have a digital receiver, we can be picked up through the airwaves with a UHF antenna on Channel 2.2 or in some cases 27.2.

If you live in Nolensville, Triune, Eagleville, Chapel Hill or College Grove, Small Town Cable Channel 3 carries us.

We hope that you enjoy The Nashville Weather Channel, and depend on it for weather updates.

Updating Today’s High Temperatures

Monday's Highs.jpg

The cold rain and chilly cloud cover will keep temperatures in the 40’s for highs today.

Rain will still be more likely south and east of Nashville. We had some sprinkles in Nashville earlier today, but the precip is now shifting a little more to the east. Click on “NWS Radar Loop” above to see the latest.

By the way, colder air may allow for a few flurries along the Cumberland Plateau on Tuesday.

Heavy Rain This Morning (In Spots)

Monday, November 21st, 2005

Check out the Middle Tennessee radar loop that’s available at the top of the blog. Through mid-morning, the rain has really been coming down in areas well to the southeast of Nashville. Lewisburg over to Tullahoma and up through Manchester and McMinnville could see a couple of inches of rain before the wet weather moves out this afternoon. Davis will be keeping an eye on things in the Storm Center for the rest of day morning and afternoon.

School Visit - Roy Waldron in Lavergne

Monday, November 21st, 2005

I spent Friday morning with a couple hundred of my third grade friends down in Lavergne at Roy Waldron Elementary. Good kids, good questions…and most importantly, great cookies! If you watched the morning show at 6:15am you know what I’m talking about. A few pictures to pass along:

Weather talk at Roy Waldron Elementary in Lavergne

After the presentation I spoke with a couple of kids who are new to Middle Tennessee, by way of Louisiana courtesy of Hurricane Katrina. We don’t hear about it too often in the daily news cycle, so it’s easy for many of us to forget that lives are still being impacted nearly three months later.

Highs for Monday November 21st

Rain moving north from Alabama and Mississippi will bring showers to parts of the mid-state this morning and afternoon. The better shower chance will be south of I-40, and some areas north and west of Nashville will miss out on the rain. Morning temperatures are in the 30s and 40s, and mostly cloudy skies will keep highs in the middle 50s this afternoon. Northwest winds kick in tonight and tomorrow, bringing another surge of chilly air. Tuesday morning lows will dip into the 30s and afternoon highs will struggle to rebound to the middle 40s. Have a great day!
